Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic Prediction: What to Expect at UFC 290?

We have not even gotten the post-fight urine samples back from Jon Jones' victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 yet, and we already have odds for his next fight. Most sportsbooks have Jon sitting as a -290 favorite over the former champion and affluent English speaker Stipe Miocic. The full-time firefighter finds himself as a whopping +285 underdog. Although we are likely months away from this fight, let's break these odds down.

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic Prediction

If you had told me that Stipe was nearly a 3-1 underdog against Jon Jones in 2019, I would have robbed every bank, store, and orphanage in Texas and placed it on Stipe. Unfortunately, it is 2023, and a lot has changed.

The last time we saw Stipe in the octagon, we thought it was his last time in the octagon. Nearly two years ago to this day, Stipe was sent to the deepest layer of the shadow realm by UFC reject Francis Ngannou. Stipe has not fought since then and has only gotten older. We have to keep in mind that he is 40 years old and has been working a full-time job as a firefighter during his hiatus.

Jon, on the other hand, has spent the last three years in the gym (except for that weekend in Las Vegas). Earlier this month, he completely dismantled former interim champion Ciryl Gane. Typically, I would advise not to look too much into that matchup since Ciryl has a completely different style than Stipe, but we cannot ignore the fact that Ciryl is a dangerous guy. While I picked Jon due to Ciryl's lack of wrestling defense, nobody envisioned Jon making it look THAT easy. Coming from a Hall of Fame Jon Jones hater, I have to give credit where credit is due.

Despite the fact that he is 0-4 against first responders, my early pick goes to Jon Jones. The age, activity, PEDS, and dedication make it hard to pick against him at this point. One thing fellow Stipe fans can cling hope to is that Stipe will be a much tougher challenge for Jon than Ciryl was due to his wrestling background and not being French. Keep an eye out for Jon via decision lines as we get closer to the fight!
