Tyson Nam vs. Bruno Silva Prediction
Nam enters this fight with a 21-12-1 record, with 12 of his victories coming by way of knockout. He is an excellent counter striker, and he possesses a wicked cross off his back foot that can catch opponents off guard. Nam's plodding forward style means he is always looking to bring the action, and he is not afraid to take a hit to land his own.
He has a great chin that can absorb blows, meaning he will eat a shot if he knows he can land a powerful one of his own, which is why his finish rate is so high. His only three wins in the octagon have all come by knockout, showing his finishing ability in the division.
On the other hand, Silva enters with a 12-5-2 record, with five victories by knockout and three by submission. He has a grappling advantage over Nam, and if the fight goes to the ground, Silva has the ability to find a submission. Silva is an aggressive striker who carries power, has a slick submission game, and has strong wrestling to accompany it.
Both of Silva's UFC wins have been stoppages, which further highlights his finishing power. He has a wide stance to set up his takedowns and put power on his strikes. Because he threw with such aggression early in his career, Silva struggled against quicker and more technical strikers. His most recent two wins were against less technical strikers that Silva could trap and then tee off against.
Nam is a well-rounded and counter-savvy striker with real power, but he can find himself hunting knockouts sometimes. He has slower movement and doesn't throw combos often but rather looks to land with his right hand. The good news is that the right hand is extremely powerful for a flyweight. In all three of his losses, Nam was outlanded heavily. In the flyweight division that is rooted in speed, cardio, volume, and pressure, Nam stands out with his low volume but heavy power. Nam's path to victory in this fight is a quick finish.
In the flyweight division, unders can be scary. In the lighter divisions, you don't typically see as many knockouts, but all that has done here is given us a great line on the under. These are two men who can finish fights in the flyweight division.
Although Silva is the rightful favorite, I would not be surprised at all if Nam knocked him out cold. On the other hand, Silva will have a considerable grappling advantage and can make Nam tap. Either way, both men have a knack for finishing fights, so I like the under in the second fight of the night.
