Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia Prediction

Gervonta Davis is a five-time title holder and has been a world champion in three separate weight divisions. Davis has devastating power in each fist, which has earned him recognition as one of the pound-for-pound best boxers in the sport. Davis had a lot of hype entering the scene years ago, and he has lived up to that billing with an undefeated record of 28-0, with 26 KOs.

On the other hand, Ryan Garcia, the former interim world champion, has quickly become one of the biggest stars in boxing. His world-class speed is nothing to scoff at, but his social media presence creates curiosity about his actual potential. We have seen several fighters rise in combat sports as big social media figures that do not end up panning out. However, winning this fight would end any debate on Garcia being the real deal.

Davis is the WBA lightweight champion, but the title won't be on the line in this fight since it's a 136-pound catchweight bout, one pound above the lightweight limit. Legacy is what matters most in this fight, as both fighters want to remain undefeated. Davis has never fought heavier than lightweight, while Garcia has fought at the 140-pound super lightweight limit in his last two fights. Davis is around 5-foot-5 with a 67.5-inch reach, giving up size to Garcia, who is 5-foot-10 with a 70-inch reach.

While Davis has the power advantage, having knocked out all but two opponents, Garcia has power too, and with his speed advantage, he has the added benefit of potentially hitting his opponent with a punch they don't see coming. Garcia's signature move, the left hook, dismissed former world champion Javier Fortuna in his most recent fight, making it Garcia's best and most complete performance yet.

These two fighters have clashing styles that should make for a fun fight. Davis is known for his power, but this will be a test of speed versus power. Garcia is one of the fastest boxers in the sport right now, and he can use that speed to land on Davis and get out of range, evading his power and frustrating him. I think Garcia's game plan coming into this bout will be to do just that: get in, land quick shots, then get out before Davis can land his own power shots. Garcia must be the one putting the pressure on in this fight to win because if Davis starts to heat up, all he needs is one big shot to end Garcia's night.

If Garcia can evade Davis's pressure, bank early rounds, and use his length, he has a great shot to upset here, and I like him to. He has the speed to do it, and his chin so far has held up in his career. Davis is a slow starter, so even if he does knock Garcia out, I think it will be later in the fight, bringing up my favorite bet: the over. I expect this fight to start slow and heat up at the halfway point or so. Garcia has tremendous speed that will make it difficult for Davis to land clean, and Davis has the chin to keep Garcia from knocking him out. I love the over in this fight, but I also like Garcia to pull off the upset, likely by decision.
