4 Minute ReadRolando Romero vs. Teofimo Lopez Prediction: Can Lopez Defend Welterweight Title on Saturday Night in Vegas?
Lopez enters Saturday night's 12-round championship fight as a -300 favorite, with Romero available at +230. Rather than paying the steep moneyline, Lopez to win by decision at -135 offers a much better way to back the challenger in his welterweight debut. Romero brings a 17-2 record with 13 knockouts, while Lopez is 22-2 with 13 stoppage victories.
Lopez is trying to rebound from a one-sided unanimous decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in January. Stevenson won 119-109 on all three scorecards and took Lopez's WBO and Ring junior welterweight championships, ending a run that included decision victories over Arnold Barboza Jr., Steve Claggett, Jamaine Ortiz and Josh Taylor. Lopez has increasingly become a fighter who wins through speed, timing and round-by-round control rather than relying on the knockout.

Rolando Romero vs. Teofimo Lopez Prediction
That recent history is important for the method market. Lopez has not scored a stoppage in any of his last five fights, with his past four victories all coming on the scorecards before the Stevenson defeat. Moving from 140 to 147 pounds also means he will be facing naturally larger opponents, making it even less appealing to pay -300 while expecting him to suddenly become a more prolific finisher.
Romero has not fought since producing the biggest victory of his career against Ryan Garcia in May 2025. He dropped Garcia with a left hook in the second round and then boxed much more patiently than many expected, earning a unanimous decision by scores of 115-112, 115-112 and 118-109. He was later elevated to full WBA welterweight champion and now makes his first defense after roughly 15 months away.
Power remains Romero's biggest threat. His 13 knockouts give him a much higher career stoppage rate than Lopez, and he has already shown against Garcia that one clean punch can completely change the complexion of a fight. Romero has also spent more time competing around this weight, while Lopez is making the jump after years at lightweight and junior welterweight.
The stylistic matchup still favors Lopez over 12 rounds. He owns the quicker feet, cleaner combinations and more varied offensive game, while Romero can become overly dependent on landing a single power shot. Lopez does not need to stand in front of him and trade. A disciplined performance built around movement, counters and banking rounds gives the favorite a much safer route to victory.
Romero has been stopped twice, by Gervonta Davis in 2022 and Isaac Cruz in 2024, so a Lopez finish cannot be ruled out. However, Lopez has not demonstrated the same consistent one-punch finishing ability as those fighters in recent years, and Romero showed considerably more patience and defensive discipline against Garcia.

The -135 decision price is therefore much easier to justify than Lopez at -300. Lopez should be able to outbox Romero for long stretches without taking unnecessary risks against the champion's power, and his recent résumé is filled with fights that have reached the scorecards. A controlled 12-round victory provides the most likely path for Lopez to leave Las Vegas as a three-division champion.
