It is 2023, and Angela Hill is headlining a UFC event. The split decision artist takes on Mackenzie Dern to cap off a dumpster fire of a card. But where there is junk, I find treasure. Dern is a -175 favorite, with Hill coming back as a +150 underdog. The odds should not be this close.

Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill Prediction
Mackenzie Dern has come a long way in both her English-speaking and her fighting career. Do not let the fact that she was born in Arizona to fluent English-speaking parents fool you. The girl is just as Portuguese as Charles Oliveira. She is a lifelong student of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and we have seen her add wrinkles of striking to her arsenal in recent fights. Dern poses a relentless takedown threat and is not deterred from failed attempts. She is more hard-headed than Marvin Vettori. Even if she shoots and misses ten times, her opponent has to be ready for an 11th takedown attempt.
Once the fight hits the mat, Dern is suffocating and dangerous. We do not see her opponents get up once Dern establishes control on the ground. The best that they can do is try to survive until the next round. Mistakes on the ground are death sentences against the Brazilian/Arizonan native, boasting seven wins by submission. At 30 years old, she is hitting the prime of her career, and a win on Saturday would put her in the perfect position for a No. 1 contender fight.
Earlier this week, Angela Hill claimed she felt disrespected by the ranking system due to her name being absent. While she may be surprised, anybody who has ever watched her fight is not. She has a career 15-12 record and has lost to more than half of the names on the current rankings list. When scanning through her resumé, she has lost to every meaningful name she has ever faced and does not have a single win that sticks out to me. But this is not an Angie-hate article. 'Overkill' is as tough as they come at 115 pounds and is a true veteran for the division.
Despite her atrocious record, a handful of her losses were in razor-thin split decisions against some of the division's best that easily could have gone her way. In fact, one of her controversial losses was to the next title challenger, Amanda Lemos. Hill has proven that she has the stamina to fight for 25 minutes and is almost impossible to put away. Coming into this fight on a two-fight win streak seems to have given bettors hope that she has rejuvenated her career and is on the cusp of making one last big run. They are wrong.
Nearing 40, Angela Hill should not be in the same octagon as Mackenzie Dern. The fact that Dern isn't a -300 favorite has me salivating. I believe that she can win this fight no matter where it goes. Hill poses virtually no finishing threat, as her sole path to victory will be via decision. Over the course of three rounds, I would be a lot less certain, but 25 minutes is a long time to survive against Dern. My official pick for this fight is 2 units on Dern ML @ -175.
