Tim Elliott vs. Victor Altamirano Prediction: Can Elliott Make It Back-to-Back Wins at UFC Vegas 74?

The upcoming UFC match between Tim Elliott and Victor Altamirano at UFC Vegas 74 is sure to be an intense bout. Tim Elliott, with a 19-12-1 record, is coming off a recent win against now number 14-ranked Tagir Ulanbekov. This is a nice bounce-back after his loss to Matheus Nicolau, and he has now won three of his last four fights. A win here could crack him into the top 10. Victor Altamirano, on the other hand, has a record of 12-2 with back-to-back wins over Daniel Lacerda and Vinicius Salvador. He is now 2-1 in the UFC after dropping his debut. Let's get into my pick, prediction, and odds for this UFC Fight Night main event.

Tim Elliott vs. Victor Altamirano Prediction

I expect Tim Elliott to use his wrestling skills to get an advantage over Altamirano in this fight. Altamirano loves to operate on the feet and does not have the best takedown defense. Elliott, a master at pushing the pace, loves to be in fast-paced fights. He also has immense top pressure and can drain opponents' energy once he gets top control. Elliott has the striking prowess to compete on the feet with Altamirano, but his wrestling is what will get him the win Saturday night. Elliott is averaging 3.73 takedowns per 15 minutes and is durable enough not to get knocked out by Altamirano.

In addition to his wrestling skills, Elliott also has an edge in experience, having fought the likes of Deiveson Figueiredo, Brandon Royval, Matheus Nicolau, and Tagir Ulanbekov. This will be the first ranked opponent for Altamirano.

Altamirano, who fought just two months ago, is an inconsistent fighter who fights like a young and inexperienced fighter. At 32, Altamirano needs to sure up his style to crack the rankings. In some of his fights, Altamirano has shown poor takedown defense and a willingness to hunt for defensive submissions from his guard. He has a bad habit of ducking after his combinations, primed for an uppercut counter. His pressure and variety have resulted in moderate success against lower competition but against any level of UFC fighter, Altamirano will be consistently hittable.

Despite Elliott's outside-the-cage issues, which may affect his consistency in this fight, I still think he will win. Elliott's wrestling skills, experience, and striking prowess will give him an advantage over Altamirano. Specifically, I like Elliott to win by finish. I realize he has not had a finish since 2017 and looks like a decision machine, but Altamirano will bring Elliott the exact kind of fight he needs to finish it. I could see Elliott winning by ground and pound or maybe even a rear naked choke if he can gas out Altamirano with top control and get him to roll and give up his back.
