Alexander Hernandez vs. Bill Algeo Prediction: Can Hernandez Get Back-to-Back Wins at UFC Fight Night?

The UFC is back after a week off and kicks off the main card of this weekend's fight night with a featherweight clash between Bill Algeo and Anthony Hernandez. The two early 30s men are looking to break into the rankings with a win, and the winner likely will find themselves in the top 15 when this weekend is all said and done. This is a great fight to kick off the main card, and I cannot wait.

Alexander Hernandez vs. Bill Algeo Prediction

Alexander Hernandez is a well-rounded fighter who enters this bout with a 14-6 record. Hernandez impressed out of the gates, scoring impressive wins over Beniel Dariush and Olivier Aubin-Mercier. At the time, many believed he was destined to become champion. However, reality soon caught up with him. Hernandez suffered some major setbacks and was met with adversity. However, now with 11 UFC appearances under his belt and a recent victory over the legendary Jim Miller, Hernandez is a more seasoned and experienced fighter.

Standing across the cage from Hernandez is Bill Algeo, a fighter who has also tasted the ups and downs of the UFC. Algeo enters this fight with a 17-7 record. Algeo did not find success as early on in the UFC as Hernandez, going 1-2 over his first three fights while dropping his debut. However, Algeo is coming off one of his best wins, a second-round submission of TJ Brown. Algeo's striking, a Karate base with a range of kicks and punches, is fine-tuned. His defensive wrestling needs some work, but he has a black belt in Brazilian Jie-Jitsu to break out on the mat when needed.

When it comes to their fighting styles, Hernandez and Algeo couldn't be more different. Hernandez's approach relies on using his kicks to set up his punches, a strategy that has served him well. Hernandez gradually diversifies his striking as the fight progresses. His low kicks will be crucial for setting up his takedowns against Algeo.

Algeo, on the other hand, employs a karate stance that includes a front kick and blitzing punches. This approach allows him to maintain distance effectively, dictating the range of the fight. Algeo has the ability to throw strikes freely because of his confidence in his wrestling and submission defense, which can be his downfall at times, given that he pulls guard and ends up on his back.

With both men coming in at similar spots in their careers and different styles that create an interesting matchup, the books have this fight very close. Algeo opened a light early favorite, but the line has flipped, and Hernandez is now a -115 favorite. I like Hernandez to win the fight overall. Hernandez is stepping down to 145 pounds after fighting most of his career at lightweight. While I was initially worried about his weight cut, he looked tremendous on the scales, subsiding my worry. With Hernandez fighting at featherweight, he should be able to maximize the effectiveness of his wrestling, which he will use early on.

However, I am doing something rare in these articles and hedging with Algeo to win in round 3. Hernandez has a knack for fading in fights, while Algeo can pour it on in all three rounds, and we have seen Algeo has the ability to finish fights late. I can see Algeo coming out strong in round three after losing rounds one and two and stopping this fight late, so I am taking Hernandez ML at -115 but hedging that with Algeo to win in round three at +1600.
