Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest Odds for UFC 318

It was a fun career for Dustin Poirier. However, he's set to hang it up after this weekend's main event against Max Holloway.

It'll be the third fight between these two legends. Max Holloway made his debut in 2012 against Poirier and was submitted. However, they rematched in 2019, with Poirier winning a five-round decision for the interim lightweight title.

This is a matchup between two fan favorites with a rich history in the UFC. Ultimately, Holloway is transitioning from the featherweight division to the lightweight division after his latest defeat to featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. We'll see if he can handle the weight increase against Poirier.

Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for the UFC 318 main event between Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier.

Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier Prediction

While Dustin Poirier is set to retire, Max Holloway is fighting for another title run in the lightweight division.

Of course, Holloway has more to gain at UFC 318. He'll easily have more motivation to win this fight. It's hard to know how much Poirier really put into his training, knowing this is the finale.

Holloway will be relentless. He'll dictate the pace and typically feeds off the fans' booing him. Since this fight is in Louisiana for Poirier's farewell, Poirier will likely have most of the fanbase on his side.

On the other hand, Poirier has more power, a bigger build, and more experience. In addition, as stated previously, he'll have the fan base on his side and should also benefit from that well. But some of these things can weigh on him. He's been worn down. It's why he's set to retire. His power might not be as good. His body may no longer be able to withstand the impact of a five-round fight.

Poirier has defeated Holloway twice in his career. But it's hard to beat somebody three times, especially when it's someone like Holloway.

Holloway did a lot of reflecting and thinks he knows what he did wrong in those first two fights. It'll be fun to think about how Poirier will face Holloway in his first and last fights. But I simply don't think he'll be able to hold up against one of the baddest men in the UFC in Holloway.

I'll back Holloway at -130.
