Costa has lost four of his last five fights. The losing streak began when he lost to Israel Adesanya at UFC 253 via knockout while competing for the middleweight belt. After losing to Adasanya, he also lost to Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker, and Sean Strickland.
He'll look to stay relevant when he competes against Roman Kopylov. Kopylov lacks the fight experience that Costa possesses. However, he's won back-to-back fights against Cesar Almeida and Chris Curtis.

It wasn't long ago when Paulo Costa was the top contender in the middleweight division. However, he's lost four of his last five fights and is now 34 years old.
At this point, Costa can't afford another loss. He's already dropped to #13 in the middleweight rankings. He's been able to show off his volume striking. But his strikes haven't landed significantly. It feels like he's no longer mentally prepared.
On the other hand, Roman Kopylov is also currently 34 years old. But he's starting to jump up the rankings. Some believe he's at his best right now. With a win over Costa, he'd likely be in the top 10 in the middleweight.
That said, Costa knows what it takes. He wants to return to his old style and chase after opponents. Costa knows he needs to end the fight early. If Costa can return to his old self and resurrect his career, that would be huge for him and also for the UFC.
So if Costa truly commits to being the early aggressor, I like him to escape with the win. Somebody shots should also do the trick.
