New Orleans Saints vs. Los Angeles Chargers Prediction: How to Bet on This NFL Preseason Game on Sunday

Both the Saints and Chargers looked great in the first week of the preseason, coming out victorious and putting up a combined 60 points. We are blessed with a Sunday Night Football game tonight between these two teams as we patiently wait for the regular season. The public seems to be hammering the over after both offenses looked elite, but I’ve got a different angle in this matchup…

New Orleans Saints vs. Los Angeles Chargers Prediction

Yes, both the Saints and Chargers’ offenses looked in mid-season form last week, but that doesn’t mean we have to deploy our hard-earned money on the over tonight. These teams have been practicing together all week, which tells me not only will the defenses have a decent feel of what to expect tonight, but there was probably some “chippiness” going on at these practices. Any football fan knows that when teams host joint practices, they always get intense.

I’m willing to bet that these defenses are going to have something to prove tonight after getting exposed in the first week of the preseason. After a week of practicing against each other, rivalries have been established before this game even takes place. I’ve noticed this trend in my years of following the NFL: when teams practice together during the preseason, their matchup tends to be more intense and low-scoring than anticipated. Thanks to a great offensive performance from both squads last week, we get to fade an inflated total, too.

For some reason, the Chargers don’t believe in getting their starters as many reps in the preseason as the rest of the league. For example, Justin Herbert has yet to play in a single preseason game in his first three seasons. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t play once again today, and if that’s the case, Easton Stick and Max Duggan will take on the workload at QB, a scary situation for over bettors.

Everyone is expecting to see Derek Carr and Justin Herbert battle it out on Sunday Night Football tonight, but what they don’t know is that Herbert probably isn’t going to play, and we might see more Winston than Carr with the recent rumors of a QB battle heating up in New Orleans. Fade both of these offenses after a great first week, and bet the under. The total is inflated from last week’s results; let’s take advantage of it.
