Have you ever heard the old football phrase, “if you have two quarterbacks, you have zero quarterbacks?” Well, that expression perfectly describes Mel Tucker’s Spartans, who have yet to reveal their starting QB for tonight. Central Michigan will be rolling with Bert Emanuel Jr., the duel-threat QB who played in four games for the Chippewas last season. There’s a chance we see Jase Bauer, who appeared in six games last year in his freshman season.

Central Michigan vs. Michigan State Prediction
Michigan State has won the last four games in this series, but the “Chips” tend to keep these games closer than they should be. Maybe it’s because both coaches come from the Nick Saban coaching tree, which, in my opinion, always gives an edge to the underdog.
Not only do the Chips have a roster of hungry veterans looking to knock off a “blue chip” program from the same state, but their coach will be facing an old coworker tonight. Central Michigan couldn’t be more motivated to not only cover this game but win.
The Spartans were a disappointment in 2022, and they got worse at the quarterback position this year. It will be either Noah Kim or Katin Houser under center for the Spartans, who combined for only 21 pass attempts in 2022. This doesn’t sound like a recipe for success, and the fact that Mel Tucker has yet to name the starter tells me neither of them earned the starting nod.
Honestly, this bet is more of a fade on Michigan State’s program than a backing of the Chippewas. I like this Central Michigan team, who returns the majority of their defense after a rare down-year for Coach McElwain. Like I said earlier, the Chips couldn’t have more motivation to win this game tonight.
Back Central Michigan on the spread before the line gets even shorter. After opening up a 14.5-point underdog, the Chippewas are now +13.5 on some books. The splits are sharp, with less than 35% of bets but 50% of the handle backing the underdog on the spread. Ride with the sharps and back the Chips to cover in East Lansing, and don’t be surprised if this ends up being a one-possession game.
