Well, we are officially live with Week 1 of the College Football season underway in less than 24 hours, and I am ready to dive into a cheeky little wager I locked in earlier and am loving. The slate is all over the place with a combination of big-time FBS schools taking on FCS schools in blood donor games, heavy-hitting week one conference matchups, and everything in between. We are going to tease two squads that I like to take care of business in Week 1 and get them at a number I think can easily cash for us.
College Football Week 1 Picks
Leg 1: Colorado vs. TCU
As much as I love the idea of more FBS schools growing into elite programs and competing for national titles, I would not trust Coach Prime's hype all too much yet. They landed some big recruits, and I do think in 2-3 seasons, he can field a competitive squad in Boulder, but the reality is they are not ready this year.
The squad has nearly no experience, and three starters on the offensive line have never played a meaningful snap of college football yet; on top of this, the offensive line looked small, in my opinion, and could struggle in Week 1. TCU lost a lot offensively but is coming off a Natty appearance with a lot of guys in the program ready to step up and returns seven starters on the defensive side of the ball.
Leg 2: Penn State vs. West Virginia
Both of these squads are going to look much different in comparison to last year's teams, but Penn State has a chance to be a legitimate ranked team all season long in my eyes. Drew Allar is one of the few quarterbacks I am genuinely excited about this season, and I think this spot for him at home in his first start is a huge advantage. West Virginia has struggled in recent years, and although they may have a decent season, I think they struggle here in Week 1.
