Miami had a season to forget last year in the ACC as they finished the season with a record of 5-7, including an embarrassing 14-point home loss to Middle Tennessee State as over 20-point favorites. They had several inconsistencies on both sides of the ball last year, but their biggest issue was at the most important position on the field: Quarterback.

Miami (OH) vs. Miami Prediction
Tyler Van Dyke started the season as the starter but battled a lot of injuries as well as being inconsistent when healthy, and it turned into a bit of a revolving door at QB last season for the Hurricanes. Miami started three difficult quarterbacks last season, and none were very that effective for Miami, but Van Dyke returns this season and should be poised to regain the starting role.
On the other side, in this matchup, we have Miami of Ohio, who gets their ALL MAC starting quarterback back from injury as Brett Gabbert is back and ready to light it up. Before getting hurt last season, Gabbert had Kentucky on the ropes as they were only down by 3 points at halftime on the road against Will Levis and the Wildcats in Lexington before Kentucky pulled away in the second half.
Gabbert missed a lot of time last season with a non-throwing shoulder injury but has a ton of experience in this program, as he has started over 30 games in his career in a Miami (OH) uniform. Gabbert in his career, has thrown for over 6000 yards and 45 touchdowns compared to just 14 interceptions, so he has been a very productive quarterback when healthy. He also has some elusiveness in the pocket as he is not just a statue back there as he has tallied over 300 rushing yards in his career as well, to go along with five rushing touchdowns.
There has also been a lot of turnover in the Miami program from transfers leaving and coming in on both sides of the ball and the addition of new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, who was most recently at Houston since 2019. Houston had a high-powered offense but was also extremely inconsistent at times. There may be some growing pains with this Miami offense as they are transitioning into a new system, and Van Dyke may be a bit rusty after coming off a down season.
With that being said, I am rolling with Miami (OH) 1H +10 at -115 for 1.5u for one of my most confident College Football play of the day. I think the Redhawks have the personnel to keep this game somewhat close through the first two quarters behind the experience and talent of Brett Gabbert at the helm of a sometimes explosive Miami (OH) offense.
