No. 14 Oregon State takes on No. 11 Washington State during the Week 4 college football slate. Can D.J. Uiagalelei and the Beavers continue to impress? NCAAF handicapper Matt MacKay is here to give his prediction and pick for this Pac-12 primetime matchup.

Oregon State vs. Washington State Prediction, Pick, Odds: Can DJ Uiagalelei, Beavers Continue to Impress?

We've got another ranked Pac-12 matchup under the lights between Oregon State and Washington State during the Week 4 college football slate.

Oregon State's offense has been on fire, but their strength of schedule is ranked 121st out of 133 FBS programs, so we need to take this stat with a grain of salt. Still, the Beavers look good entering a tough road environment in Pullman, Washington. Washington State has played much better competition, ranking 59th SOS, including an impressive nine-point win as a home underdog against Wisconsin in Week 2.

The last time these two teams played, Oregon State won 24-10 at home. Prior to that game, Washington State had recorded four consecutive wins head-to-head, so expect Cougars Head Coach Jake Dickert to have his team motivated to avenge their loss from a year ago. The Cougars have also been explosive on offense, scoring at least 30 points in all three games thus far, including 50 points against Colorado State, who kept Colorado under 50 points in a Week 3 double overtime loss.

The Cougars have a tough schedule in front of them, but the Beavers are their first challenge, entering Pullman ranked 14th in the country, while Washington State is ranked 21st. Oddsmakers expect a tight one on Saturday night, with the Cougars, once underdogs at home, getting 2.5 points ATS. The moneyline odds are close to a pick 'em, while the point total is set to 56.5.

NCAAF handicapper Matt MacKay is here to give us his prediction and pick for this Pac-12 primetime matchup between the undefeated Oregon State Beavers vs. Washington State Cougars.

Oregon State vs. Washington State Prediction

Oregon State upgraded its quarterback with Clemson transfer D.J. Uiagalelei, who has scored ten total touchdowns, including six as a passer. He's the primary focal point of Oregon State's spread offense, led by sixth-year Head Coach Jonathan Smith, who has taken the Beavers from multiple two-win seasons to a 10-3 record in 2022 and an undefeated start to its 2023 campaign.

Washington State's Head Coach, Jake Dickert, had a decent 2022 season, going 7-6, with a loss in the LA Bowl. The Cougars return quarterback Cam Ward under center, who has looked better in his second year within Dickert's air raid system, completing 72 percent of pass attempts for nine touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Ward is also a capable ball carrier, tallying two scores on the ground, but a deep backfield balances the pass-centric offensive firepower the Cougars are capable of unleashing. Oregon State does have a stout defense, as they ranked 38th in points allowed per game in 2022 while allowing 17 points or less in each of their games this season. It'll certainly be an intriguing matchup when the Cougars' offense matches up against Oregon State's defense on Saturday night.

The point total line is 56.5, which feels a bit high for two defenses capable of playing sound, fundamental football. Oregon State has the edge, but its soft schedule could come back to bite the Beavers if they cannot slow down the Cougars' passing attack. This feels like the perfect line, and I could see it going in either direction, so I'm pivoting back to focus on the spread and moneyline odds.

Currently, at FanDuel Sportsbook, the Cougars are +110 on the moneyline while sitting as +2.5-point underdogs ATS. We already watched the Cougars prove oddsmakers and skeptics wrong with their statement win over Wisconsin as a home underdog, and it feels like they will do it once again on Saturday night. Whether it's the loss to Oregon State last year, which was the first time in five years, or the momentum and confidence gained from beating a quality Big Ten opponent like Wisconsin, the Cougars at +110 moneyline odds is how we need to bet this Pac-12 matchup.
