Wisconsin vs. Purdue Prediction
The hype surrounding this new-look Wisconsin football program is overblown. Tanner Mordecai has been as inconsistent as he was at SMU before transferring this offseason. I’m not saying Hudson Card is a better quarterback than Mordecai, but I am willing to bet that he outplays him tonight.
Purdue is going to have a tough time running the ball against this Wisconsin defensive line, but that could give the Boilermakers an edge in this contest. Hudson Card can slice and dice this overrated Badgers’ secondary, and although he’s only thrown more than one touchdown pass in one game this season, I’m willing to bet he does it for the second time tonight. Purdue will have no choice but to let the former Texas QB air it out; it’s the only chance they have at moving the football against Wisconsin.
Not only am I betting on Card to throw more than 1.5 touchdown passes tonight, I’m taking Purdue on the spread. The Boilermakers opened up 7-point underdogs, and are now only getting six points with the public backing Wisconsin. Nearly 70% of bets are currently on Wisconsin to cover the spread, but we’re seeing reverse line movement, a great sign for Purdue backers.
I don’t think this Purdue team is as bad as the public thinks they are. I believe in what Coach Walters is building in his first season as Purdue’s head coach. Hudson Card might not be as dynamic as Caleb Williams, but I’d give him an edge at home against a turnover-prone Mordecai. Fade the Badgers, and back the sharp home dog before the spread gets any shorter.
