FIU vs. New Mexico State Prediction, Pick Against the Spread, and Latest Odds
This is a very interesting matchup between two of the historically worst teams in the FBS who have both shown improvement this season with strong play at times from both squads. Who has the edge tonight? Let's break it down.

FIU comes into this matchup with a record of 3-2 and they have taken considerable strides to improve their quality as a football team so far in 2023. FIU appears to be a team that plays up to their competition as we saw them compete hard against a Louisiana Tech team as double-digit underdogs in Week 1 and then we watched them nearly lose straight up to Maine at home, who is a very bad FCS team, as a 15-point home favorite.

FIU vs. New Mexico State Prediction
Then they beat North Texas straight up as 11-point dogs as they scored 46 points and put up a whopping 514 total yards of offense while also forcing three turnovers on defense. FIU may have finally found a legitimate quarterback in freshman Keyone Jenkins, who has played very well since he took over as the lead signal caller for this Panthers offense. Jenkins is averaging 250 passing yards per game and if you take out the game against Liberty, who has a very solid defense, he has averaged 289 yards against North Texas, UConn, and Maine.
The New Mexico State defense is not a strong unit, and they do not generate much pressure on the QB as they are ranked 120th out of 133 qualified FBS teams in sack percentage. New Mexico State is also allowing 8.1 yards per passing attempt, so I fully expect Jenkins to have a lot of success through the air tonight.
I mentioned earlier how FIU seems to play to the level of their opponents and the same thing can be said about New Mexico State. New Mexico State lost to UMass in Week 1 as seven-point favorites, like they are tonight, as they gave up 41 points to a very anemic UMass offense. Fast forward to the next game and New Mexico State was only up 20-14 at halftime against Western Illinois who is one of the worst teams in the entire FCS.
The Aggies allowed Western Illinois to throw the ball with relative ease in that game as they cannot generate any pressure and aren't stout in the backend which is not a good recipe for defending the pass. New Mexico State is also coming off a tough loss to Hawaii in which they allowed 17 unanswered points in the 2H to lose by a close score of 20-17 as the Rainbow Warriors won on a last second field goal.
The bottom line for this game is that both teams have similar talent levels but only one team has shown the ability to play up to their competition and that is FIU. FIU is 3-1 ATS as an underdog this season including a straight up win over UConn and I think they start fast again tonight as they have really shined in the first half especially in their games against Louisiana Tech, UConn, and North Texas. With that being said, I am rolling with FIU 1H +3.5 at -108 for 1.5u as one of my most confident college football plays of the night as I think the Panthers have a solid opening half tonight and take a lead into the locker room.
