Washington State vs. Oregon Prediction, Pick, Odds: Can the Cougars Regroup Against Bo Nix, Ducks?

What happened to Washington State?

The Cougars won four straight games and looked like a clear top-25 team. But after those first four games, Washington State only scored 23 points in their last eight quarters while allowing 69 points to UCLA and Arizona.

Now they'll take on Oregon, who are coming off a tough loss to Washington. However, Oregon is no fluke after that loss. They were a seemingly easy field goal away from earning overtime on the road.

Washington State Cougars vs. Oregon Ducks Prediction

The Washington State Cougars have fallen apart. After a 44-6 loss at home to Arizona, it's clear that Washington State was never going to be consistent enough to compete in the Pac-12.

Washington State has wins over Wisconsin and Oregon State. So they'll always be capable of an upset. But they're not consistently good to be in any consideration for a Pac-12 title.

The Cougars have relied on Cam Ward, who has thrown for 1.779 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. He had been dominant in the first four games of the season. But since then, the offense has been extremely quiet.

The pass protection has been awful, and the run block has been just as bad. That has hurt the offense in what they're trying to do.

It won't be any easier against an Oregon defense that has held teams to 282.2 yards per game this season. The Ducks have only allowed 180.7 yards in the air and have one of the best secondaries in college football.

With the Cougars relying primarily on the passing game, it's hard to imagine Washington State adding a lot of points in this game.

On the other hand, Oregon just lost to Washington. But the Ducks held a fourth quarter lead, and almost sent the game to overtime on the road. Bo Nix has thrown for nearly 1,800 yards with 17 touchdowns and only one interception.

He's a Heisman candidate and has led Oregon to 555 yards per game this season.

Washington State's defense has looked good against the pass, allowing 272.5 yards per game. The secondary is capable, and the pass rush is solid. But Bucky Irving and the Oregon run game should have a field day. That'll eventually open up the passing game for Oregon.

It's not hard for Bo Nix to get into a groove. He's a veteran college quarterback with tons of experience.

If Arizona can win 44-6 on the road, Oregon could get the same result at home. Take Oregon against the spread.
