Tonight‘s showdown between Georgia State and Georgia Southern has big time implications in the Sun Belt conference as either one of these teams could end up winning the regular season title.

Georgia State vs. Georgia Southern Prediction
Georgia State comes into this game playing some of their best ball of the season as they blew out Marshall by 17 points and are coming off a road victory over Louisiana where they were 3 1/2 point underdogs. In the past, Georgia State always had the offensive fire power, but lacked the defense to back it up. That is not the case this season as they actually have a very formidable defense that they have flashed to this point.
Georgia State has excelled at stopping the run, which may help them a bit tonight, but they may be at a disadvantage on defense considering… Well, Georgia Southern does not run the ball. Georgia Southern passes the ball more than any other team in the country as they are averaging more than 50 passing attempts per game.
On the season to this point, Georgia Sate’s passing defense is ranked 112th in opponent completion percentage (66%), 63rd in yards allowed per attempt (7.3), and 84th in sack percentage. So basically, their cornerbacks and safeties are allowing a lot of separation on the outside for completions and their front seven isn’t getting much pressure to boot. Georgia State’s defense is also ranked 87th in opponent third down conversion rate as their opponents have converted 41% of their third downs against the Panthers this season.
On the other side, the Georgia Southern defense has done a fantastic job of creating turnovers to this point. The Eagles are averaging 2.2 takeaways per game which is ranked 8th in the nation. Their quarterback, Davis Brin, has had some issues with interceptions this season but I expect him to play well and take care of the ball at home against this weak Panthers secondary. This is also a huge rivalry game.
We saw Georgia Southern take care of business earlier in the season at home against Coastal Carolina and I think they will do the same here. I expect a bit of negative regression for Georgia State after notching two wins in a row and barely escaping against Louisiana where they were only able to score 20 points.
Not only is this a rivalry game but this is a huge revenge spot after losing on the road last season to the Panthers by a score of 41-33 and I think they get it tonight. With that being said, I am rolling with Georgia Southern ML at -113 for 1.5U as my most confident college football play of the day for tonight’s action.
