The 8-2 Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Provo, Utah, to face the 5-5 BYU Cougars during an early kickoff between two Big 12 programs that lack familiarity with each other.
The Sooners are led by quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who has turned to his legs lately to produce big plays and touchdowns, while also keeping Oklahoma ahead of schedule. Their signature win during a last-minute comeback over Texas in the Red River Rivalry game was the peak of Oklahoma's success, as the Sooners haven't looked nearly as convincing in three of their four recent games, which include two consecutive road losses to Kansas and Oklahoma State before bouncing back with a resounding 59-20 home win over West Virginia.
BYU's season has been much more up-and-down, starting 3-0, including a road win over Arkansas, before losing five of their last seven games outright. The Cougars' defense has been largely ineffective, surrendering at least two rushing and two receiving touchdowns in three straight games, resulting in an 0-3 skid entering Saturday's home game against the Sooners.

Gabriel and the Sooners will be able to resort to their preferred run-centric offense against the Cougars on Saturday afternoon. BYU's run defense is atrocious, allowing 5.0 YPC and 12 rushing touchdown this season, with eight of these coming in their last three games played.
On offense, the Cougars will face an Oklahoma defense that specializes in stopping the pass, while its run defense is also a work in progress. Losses to Oklahoma State and Kansas were a direct result of the Sooners' being unable to stop the run, even though they held the Cowboys under 4.0 YPC. The volume wore down the defense, so expect BYU to dial up a heavy dose of running plays to exploit Oklahoma's weakness defensively.
Both teams have been friendly towards the point total overs this season, each going 6-4, while the Sooners are 7-3 ATS compared to 3-7 ATS for BYU. Oklahoma hasn't been reliable covering big spreads as the favorite this season, so we're fading them in this spot and looking to cash in on the point total line set at 56.5.
