Last season, Oklahoma State was one of the most overhyped teams in the country, only to completely collapse—0-9 in Big 12 play and missing a bowl game for the first time since 2005 under Mike Gundy. This year, Gundy hit the transfer portal hard, and the roster looks brand new. The biggest storyline is at quarterback, where the battle between TCU transfer Hauss Hejny and sophomore Zane Flores is still wide open. Both bring a different dynamic than Alan Bowman—more athleticism, more mobility, and the ability to make this offense electric again.
On the other side, Tennessee Martin is no pushover. The Skyhawks are a solid FCS program with a well-coached, physical style of play. They lost some key pieces from 2024, though, and while they usually compete well in the trenches, it’s tough to see them holding up for four quarters in Stillwater. Jase Bauer (transfer from Sam Houston) is expected to start at QB, but he hasn’t shown much to impress against higher-level competition.
When the ball kicks off tonight, expect Oklahoma State to come out with their hair on fire. Gundy knows the pressure is on after last year’s embarrassment, and this is the perfect chance to give fans something to get excited about.
