Houston vs. Oklahoma State Prediction: Can Cowboys Stun Conner Weigman, Cougars on Saturday?

It’s not often I find myself backing a team riding a four-game losing streak — but this is the exact kind of ugly number that offers real value. The Oklahoma State Cowboys host Houston as massive underdogs, and despite all the noise around their quarterback situation, I’m backing the Pokes to keep this one competitive against a Houston team that is quite overrated in my opinion.

Let’s get the obvious out of the way — yes, Oklahoma State has been bad lately. But the market has completely overreacted to that slump, especially given the quarterback change. With Zane Flores sidelined due to a shoulder injury, the Cowboys turn to Sam Jackson, a former wide receiver with elite mobility.

Jackson’s dual-threat ability gives this offense something it’s been missing — movement. The Cowboys have struggled to sustain drives with a static pocket passer, but Jackson’s legs create opportunities to extend plays, buy time, and keep Houston’s defense guessing. Expect Oklahoma State to lean heavily on the run game with Rodney Fields, who should find success against a Cougars defense that’s given up nearly 200 rushing yards per game over the past two weeks.

That ground-first approach helps the Cowboys shorten the game, chew clock, and keep this within the number.

Houston vs. Oklahoma State Prediction

Houston might be 4-1, but that record is deceptive. In their lone matchup against a ranked opponent (Texas Tech), the Cougars were completely outclassed — losing 35-11 and failing to score a single point after Weigman exited with a concussion.

Even if Weigman returns, this isn’t a clean matchup. Houston’s offensive line is a mess; all five starting linemen rank 92nd or worse nationally in pass-blocking grades, per PFF. That’s a huge opportunity for Oklahoma State’s defensive front to generate pressure and create chaos.

Houston’s offense has been inconsistent all season, averaging just 27.2 points per game, and it’s been heavily reliant on explosive plays to mask a lack of balance. If Oklahoma State can limit the big shots — and they’ve quietly tackled better in recent weeks — this number is simply too big.

  • Oklahoma State’s defense, despite the stats, matches up well here: they can bring pressure off the edge and force quick throws against an already struggling Houston line.
  • Houston’s run defense has been leaky — giving up back-to-back 190+ yard rushing games — and OSU will look to pound the ball behind Fields and short RPO looks.

This line is inflated because of public perception — everyone’s off the Cowboys which I don’t blame them, but Houston hasn’t proven it can dominate anyone with its current personnel.

Houston vs. Oklahoma State Pick

  • 2 Unit Pick: Oklahoma State +17.5 (-130) Click here to get the best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook

It’s not going to be pretty, but that’s exactly the point. Oklahoma State still has enough talent to hang around in this spot. With Sam Jackson’s mobility, a focused ground game, and a defensive front that can expose Houston’s blocking issues, this game should stay much tighter than oddsmakers expect.

The Cougars might escape with the win, but the backdoor will always be open — and this number is simply too high in a matchup that screams low-scoring grind.

Sprinkle the ML at +500! The Cowboys keep it close, control tempo, and cash as big road dogs.
