Florida vs. Kentucky Prediction: Can Mark Stoops Save Job, Upset Gators in SEC Clash?

Kentucky hosts Florida today in an SEC matchup where the wrong team might be favored. With Florida traveling to Lexington after an emotional, all-out near-upset of Georgia, I’m backing Kentucky in a classic letdown spot with major matchup edges and key injury advantages.

Florida just poured everything into the Georgia game — trick plays, tempo changes, new formations, and a fully unleashed DJ Lagway — and still came up short. That type of effort is usually followed by a dip in focus the next week, especially with Ole Miss, Florida State, and Tennessee all still ahead on the schedule. This feels like a perfect flat-spot against a Kentucky team that is playing its best football of the season.

The Gators also don’t get the benefit of surprise anymore. The one-week “new coach” bump is already gone. Everything Florida rolled out last week — new route concepts, tempo adjustments, and personnel changes — is now on film. And for all the talk about the revamped offense, Lagway still didn’t look sharp out of the bye. It may just be a lost developmental year for him.

Worse for Florida: their wide receiver room is gutted. Eugene Wilson III — the one guy who actually looked dangerous last week — is out. Five-star freshman Dallas Wilson is out. Aidan Mizell and Vernell Brown III are both questionable. That leaves Florida with a bunch of possession guys and no true separators — and that plays right into the teeth of a Kentucky defense that is top-20 nationally against the run and built to stop one-dimensional offenses.

Kentucky, meanwhile, gets a major upgrade at quarterback with Cutter Boley, who has looked far better coming out of the bye. And unlike most freshman QBs, he won’t have to deal with pressure – Florida ranks 118th in pressure rate. That matters, because Kentucky’s offense is built around yards after catch, not deep-shot passing. Receiver Kendrick Law has more YAC than actual receiving yards this season — an absurd stat that tells the whole story: get the ball out quick, let the athletes go.

That’s exactly how you attack this Florida defense, which has been shredded by YAC all season, ranking 115th nationally in yards after catch allowed and 105th in pass yards per attempt allowed. Not only does Boley get clean pockets, he gets a defense that can’t tackle in space. Law has 40+ yards in four of his last five — he should eat again today.

Kentucky also isn’t a team sleep-walking here. They’ve been playing with swagger ever since the QB change. They should’ve beaten Texas at home, then went on the road and upset Auburn. They’re confident, they’re healthy, and they’re at home against a team they do not fear. Before last year’s loss in Gainesville, Kentucky had covered seven straight in this rivalry — the Wildcats have been the sharper, more disciplined side for years.

Florida, on the other hand, is still winless away from home this season — 0-4 with a combined scoring margin of 80–34. Every time they’ve left The Swamp, the offense has stalled, the turnovers come back, and the defense gets worn down.

Situationally, this is everything you want when grabbing points:

  • Road team coming off their emotional Super Bowl
  • Multiple key WR injuries creating a weaker version of offense on the field
  • Defense that relies on speed facing a heavy YAC offense
  • Kentucky peaking, not declining
  • Home dog with the better matchup + momentum

The line should not be over a field goal once you adjust for injuries, fatigue, and game script. Kentucky has the better spot, better health, and the exact offensive style that beats Florida.
