We kick off Saturday with the Big Noon game on FOX. And nothing screams “start your day the right way” like fading the No. 1 team in the country.
But the more you dig into this matchup, the more Rutgers makes perfect sense.
For starters, my number on this game comes in “a tad under 30,” which immediately gives us value before we even consider the spot. And the spot is huge. Rutgers comes in off a bye week, fully rested, and still playing for bowl eligibility — which means effort, motivation, and focus won’t be an issue. This team has dealt with as many injuries, so the extra downtime is massive.

Rutgers vs. Ohio State Prediction
On the other side, Ohio State has already locked in a College Football Playoff reservation. The Buckeyes now have Michigan next week, followed by a likely Big Ten Championship appearance, followed by the CFP. No team in the country has been more aware of the expanded season grind than Ryan Day. He manages the calendar better than anyone, and it shows — Ohio State plays at the slowest pace in the nation, milking clock, limiting plays, and protecting their roster.
And that’s exactly what we want when we’re catching 32.5 points.
There’s also a very real chance Ohio State is thin at wide receiver again. Star freshmen Carnell Tate and Jeremiah Smith are both dealing with injuries. Smith left last week’s game. Tate hasn’t played in two straight weeks. And with Michigan looming, it simply makes no sense for the Buckeyes to push either one. Take away those elite weapons, and Ohio State becomes much more manageable for an otherwise abysmal Rutgers defense.
Even better for us: Rutgers’ biggest defensive weakness is running quarterbacks — but Julian Sayin isn’t bringing that dimension. OSU won’t be stressing this Rutgers front in the same way mobile quarterbacks have.
Offensively, Rutgers should get theirs. Not much — but enough. I trust them to give us a couple scores, even if some of it comes in garbage time. And with how slow Ohio State plays, the limited number of possessions makes it incredibly difficult to win by five touchdowns unless everything goes perfectly. That’s not the style Ohio State is playing in 2025. This is a “survive, advance, stay healthy” game for them.
Look at how UCLA caught a similar number last week — on the road, with a backup quarterback — and still hung around until a meaningless late touchdown.
This profiles as a classic Ohio State game: suffocating, controlled, efficient… but not explosive enough to bury a competent team inside this gigantic spread.

Massive number, bad spot for Ohio State, rested Rutgers with motivation, slow pace from the Buckeyes, limited possessions, and likely WR injuries. Everything pushes this toward the dog.
