Hawaii vs. Stanford Prediction
The roster did take a substantial hit. Hawaii must replace 17 starters across offense, defense and special teams, leaving only eight returning starters. The encouraging part is that four of those eight earned All-Mountain West recognition, led by Alejado, receiver Pofele Ashlock, linebacker Jamih Otis and defensive back Elijah Palmer.
Alejado is the reason the losses are easier to tolerate. He averaged 282.4 passing yards per game last season, eighth-best nationally, and was the only FBS quarterback to record four consecutive 300-yard passing performances during one stretch. Having that type of established quarterback is enormously valuable in Week 0 when so many teams are still learning what their new offenses look like.
Stanford finished 4-8 but did show improvement, including a 4-2 home record. General manager Andrew Luck turned to Tavita Pritchard as the new head coach, while Michigan transfer Davis Warren won the quarterback job. Warren has not played since the end of the 2024 season after missing all of 2025 with a torn ACL, adding uncertainty to Stanford's first game under a new staff.
The Cardinal do have important returning pieces. Running back Micah Ford rushed for 643 yards in only nine games, while linebacker Matt Rose produced 106 tackles and finished second in the ACC. Stanford also avoided the massive portal exodus affecting many rebuilding programs, losing only five players who logged at least 150 snaps last year.
These programs have split their two recent meetings. Stanford won 37-24 in Honolulu in 2023, but Hawaii answered with the 23-20 victory last August. The Rainbow Warriors are now coming off a nine-win season and bowl championship, while Stanford is again introducing a new quarterback and head coach.

Stanford may improve significantly under Pritchard, but laying four points immediately asks plenty from an offense with a quarterback returning from a year-long absence. Hawaii's roster has more holes, yet Alejado gives the underdog a proven difference-maker capable of keeping this inside one possession and potentially winning outright again.
