Jacksonville State vs. North Dakota State Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest College Football Odds for Saturday, August 29th
Jacksonville State travels to Fargo for one of the most fascinating games of Week 0 as North Dakota State officially begins its FBS era. The Bison have dominated the FCS landscape for more than a decade, but their first Mountain West season begins against an established FBS program that returns substantial experience from a nine-win team.

Jacksonville State and North Dakota State kick off at 5:30 PM ET on CBS Sports Network from the Fargodome. NDSU is favored by roughly a touchdown with the total at 46.5, making the question whether the Bison's enormous home-field advantage immediately translates against FBS competition.
Jacksonville State went 9-5 last season and 7-1 in Conference USA. The Gamecocks fell 19-15 to Kennesaw State in the CUSA Championship Game but responded by beating Troy 17-13 in the Salute to Veterans Bowl, giving Charles Kelly's team another winning season and plenty of experience in meaningful late-year games.

Jacksonville State vs. North Dakota State Prediction
The continuity is particularly attractive. Fifty players who contributed last season are back, including five offensive starters and seven defensive starters. Quarterback Caden Creel made nine starts and won seven of them while rushing for 1,076 yards, and defensive backs Tre'Quon Fegans and Caleb Nix enter the season on major national award watch lists.
North Dakota State certainly is not a typical team moving up from the FCS. The Bison went 12-1 last season before suffering a brutal 29-28 home loss to Illinois State in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Their Fargodome dominance is legendary, and the defense finished No. 1 in the FCS in scoring defense before the move to the Mountain West.
There are still major transition points. Nathan Hayes enters his first season as the starting quarterback, while NDSU returns three starters on the offensive line and five on defense. Running back DJ Scott is the centerpiece after rushing for 502 yards and six touchdowns last season, but this is a substantially different test from the weekly FCS schedule.
There is also plenty of history attached to the matchup. These teams last played for the 2015 FCS national championship, when Carson Wentz and NDSU overwhelmed No. 1 seed Jacksonville State 37-10 to win a fifth consecutive national title. More than a decade later, the Gamecocks are the established FBS program and NDSU is the team making the jump.

The Bison may ultimately win their FBS debut, but seven points is a substantial number against a Jacksonville State roster with this much continuity. Creel's mobility can keep drives alive, the Gamecocks have experienced defenders at every level and they have already spent several years adjusting to FBS football. NDSU's first game at the new level should be far more difficult than a normal Fargodome opener.
