New Mexico State vs. Florida State Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest College Football Odds for Saturday, August 29th
New Mexico State travels to Tallahassee for a Week 0 matchup that begins a critical season for Mike Norvell and Florida State. The Seminoles are overwhelming favorites, but both offenses enter with new quarterbacks and enough uncertainty to make the scoring total more interesting than the enormous point spread.

New Mexico State and Florida State kick off at 7:00 PM ET on The CW from Doak Campbell Stadium. Florida State is favored by 31.5 points with the total set at 53.5, creating a game where the Seminoles are expected to dominate without necessarily needing a huge offensive score.
Florida State finished only 5-7 last season despite opening 3-0 and beating No. 8 Alabama 31-17. The Seminoles then went 2-7 over their final nine games, leaving Norvell firmly under pressure after posting a combined 7-17 record over the last two seasons.

New Mexico State vs. Florida State Prediction
The latest attempt to fix the offense centers on transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels. The former Stanford and Auburn quarterback arrives with 23 career starts and 4,783 passing yards but has also thrown 22 interceptions against 24 touchdowns. Florida State added help at running back and along the offensive line, and the expectation is for the Seminoles to lean heavily on the ground game rather than immediately asking Daniels to throw all over the field.
New Mexico State went 4-8 last season after beginning 2-0 and then losing eight of its final 10 games. The Aggies also have another new starting quarterback, with Furman transfer Trey Hedden taking over after throwing for a school-record 2,967 yards at the FCS level last season.
The Aggies at least return enough experience to avoid being completely helpless. Their offensive line brings 102 combined career starts, while linebackers Sone Aupiu and Tory Gethers return after combining for 156 tackles last season. That experience may help New Mexico State shorten possessions and avoid immediately turning this into a track meet.
These schools have met only once before, with Florida State winning 36-0 in 1964. Something in that general style is a useful framework Saturday. FSU can dominate the matchup without reaching 45 or 50 points, particularly if the Seminoles establish the run and become increasingly conservative once the margin becomes comfortable.
New Mexico State vs. Florida State Pick

New Mexico State's path to the over would likely require scoring multiple touchdowns and forcing FSU to continue attacking deep into the second half. That is difficult to trust with an FCS transfer making his first start against Power Four competition. A 35-10 or 38-7 game produces the comfortable Florida State victory expected by the market while remaining below the total.
