Sacramento State and Eastern Michigan kick off at 6:30 PM ET on ESPN+ from Rynearson Stadium. Eastern Michigan is favored by 9.5 points and the total sits at 53.5 as the teams meet for the first time.
Sacramento State went 7-5 in its final FCS season and was much better offensively than the record suggests. The Hornets averaged 33.8 points and 425.6 yards per game, including an enormous 262.6 rushing yards per contest, and scored at least 35 points in six different games.

Sacramento State vs. Eastern Michigan Prediction
Everything changes in 2026. Sacramento State is making its FBS debut, its MAC debut and its first appearance under new head coach Alonzo Carter. The jump in weekly competition creates obvious questions defensively, but the offensive identity that produced explosive games throughout last season gives the Hornets a chance to immediately contribute to a higher total.
Eastern Michigan went only 4-8 last year, yet Chris Creighton brings back considerably more offensive stability than the record indicates. Noah Kim returns at quarterback after leading the MAC with 2,817 passing yards and throwing 18 touchdowns, making him the first EMU quarterback in years to open consecutive seasons as the established starter.
The supporting cast is strong as well. Dontae McMillan rushed for 1,014 yards while averaging 5.73 per carry, and Nick Devereaux returns after producing 510 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Eastern also added 24 transfers, including five from Power Four programs, to a roster that needed more depth after last season's four-win disappointment.
That creates a much different matchup than a typical opener involving an FCS move-up. Sacramento State already played an aggressive offensive style and now enters with the energy surrounding its first FBS game. Eastern Michigan has the experienced quarterback, 1,000-yard back and home-field advantage needed to punish the Hornets whenever their new defense struggles with the speed of FBS football.

The total only requires something in the neighborhood of 31-24 or 34-21. Eastern should be capable of getting into the 30s against a transitioning defense, while Sacramento State's rushing attack and history of producing explosive games should be enough to contribute three touchdowns of its own.
