Eli Drinkwitz enters his seventh season at Missouri with another talented roster, but the offense will look considerably different from the group that finished 2025. Arkansas-Pine Bluff already has a game under its belt, beating Morehouse last Saturday before making the quick turnaround for its first FBS test of the year.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Missouri Line Movement and Betting Splits
Missouri was sitting around -53.5 earlier in the week before the market moved to -54.5, while the full-game total remains around 61.5. The Golden Lions have attracted 63% of spread bets and 66% of the money at +54.5, compared with 37% of tickets and 34% of the handle on Missouri.
The slight move toward Missouri despite most of the spread action landing on Arkansas-Pine Bluff is notable, although a one-point adjustment on a spread this large is not enough to overstate. The full-game Over has also drawn 58% of bets and 53% of the money, creating a modest public lean toward points.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Missouri Prediction
Missouri should dominate the physical matchup, but the more interesting question is how quickly its rebuilt offense reaches that point. Austin Simmons makes his first start for the Tigers after transferring from Ole Miss, where he completed 45 of 75 passes for 60% with four touchdowns and five interceptions last season. He now has to establish timing in a new offense under coordinator Chip Lindsey.
There are additional moving pieces around Simmons. Consensus All-American running back Ahmad Hardy will miss the opener after rushing for a school-record 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, while All-SEC left tackle Cayden Green is also unavailable. Jamal Roberts is capable of carrying the rushing workload after producing 753 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, but replacing Hardy and Green simultaneously removes two of Missouri's most established offensive pieces.
Those absences matter more for a first-half total than they do for the game's eventual winner. Missouri should have little trouble wearing down an FCS roster over four quarters, but the Tigers can spend the opening possessions establishing Simmons, evaluating their new offensive structure and getting inexperienced players comfortable rather than immediately operating at peak efficiency.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff also has reason to shorten the game. Garrison Davis completed 10 of 15 passes for 182 yards in the opener, while the Golden Lions ran for 154 yards as a team. UAPB generated several explosive plays against Morehouse, but producing those same gains against SEC athletes will be considerably more difficult. A run-heavy approach that limits possessions is likely the more realistic way to remain competitive early.
Missouri's recent FCS blowouts also show why a first-half Under can work even if the final score becomes ugly. The Tigers beat Central Arkansas 61-6 last season but led only 26-0 at halftime. In 2024, Missouri crushed Murray State 51-0 but went into halftime ahead 35-0. A first-half total of 35.5 would have stayed Under in both games despite Missouri eventually winning by more than 50 points.
The number also gives the Under more breathing room than it initially appears. Missouri could score five first-half touchdowns and lead 35-0 and the wager would still cash. With Hardy and Green unavailable, Simmons debuting in a new system and Arkansas-Pine Bluff unlikely to contribute much offensively against Missouri's defense, there is a realistic path to another dominant but methodical opening half.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff vs. Missouri Pick
- Pick: First Half Under 35.5 Points (-118) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Missouri does not need to struggle for this bet to hit. The Tigers can completely control the opening half and still remain below 35.5, just as they did in their last two season-opening blowouts against FCS opponents.
The combination of a new quarterback, new offensive coordinator, Hardy's absence and Green's absence creates enough early uncertainty to favor patience rather than expecting six quick touchdowns. Arkansas-Pine Bluff should have difficulty generating points of its own, making the first-half Under a better way to attack this mismatch than trying to determine whether Missouri wins by 45, 55 or 65 points.
