Haynes King was the difference, rushing 19 times for 156 yards and three touchdowns while adding 143 passing yards. Colorado tied the game at 20 in the fourth quarter but could not finish the upset.

Georgia Tech opened as a 6.5-point favorite and remains at -6.5 entering game day, so there has been little meaningful spread movement despite significant action on the Yellow Jackets. The total has similarly stayed around 50.5.
Georgia Tech is drawing 77% of spread bets and 59% of the handle, making the Yellow Jackets one of the more popular favorites on Thursday's slate. Colorado has only 23% of tickets but 41% of the money, suggesting some larger wagers are landing on the underdog, although the unchanged line does not create a strong enough signal to label either side as definitively sharp.

The biggest change from last year's matchup comes at quarterback for Georgia Tech. King exhausted his eligibility after carrying the offense for much of 2025, and Alberto Mendoza now takes over as the starter. That creates some uncertainty, but Georgia Tech has enough support around its new quarterback to avoid asking him to immediately replicate King's production.
The Yellow Jackets should again attack Colorado primarily through the running game. Malachi Hosley returns after rushing for 697 yards and seven touchdowns on only 98 carries last season, an excellent 7.1 yards per attempt. Georgia Tech also added Alabama transfer Justice Haynes, giving Key another proven back and allowing the offense to lean on a deep rotation rather than Mendoza's arm.
That matchup is particularly important against a Colorado defense undergoing another major reconstruction. The Buffaloes lost all 11 defensive starters from last year's opening lineup and brought in another large transfer class. New defensive coordinator Chris Marve has talent to work with, but immediately handling Georgia Tech's physical run game on the road is a difficult first assignment for a unit with almost no continuity.
Colorado's offense also brings significant uncertainty despite having a more familiar quarterback. Julian Lewis returns after completing 52 of 94 passes for 589 yards and four touchdowns during limited action as a freshman. He now enters the season as the starter and should benefit from a year of development, but Colorado surrounds him with another heavily reshuffled supporting cast.
The Buffaloes brought in Richard Young to strengthen a running game that struggled to consistently control games last season, while Joseph Williams and several transfers reshape the receiving corps. The offensive line also includes multiple new faces, making protection against a Georgia Tech defense that is expected to become more aggressive under new coordinator Jason Semore another major concern.
Georgia Tech's offense may take some time to fully settle without King, but the Yellow Jackets do not need Mendoza to dominate through the air to control this matchup. Colorado allowed 30.5 points per game last season, went winless on the road and now has to integrate another massive collection of newcomers while facing a Georgia Tech team that already proved it could physically control this matchup.

Georgia Tech enters with the stronger foundation, home-field advantage and a rushing attack that should again create problems for Colorado's rebuilt defense. The Yellow Jackets rushed for 320 yards in Boulder last season despite committing three early turnovers, and avoiding that kind of self-inflicted damage should make the rematch more comfortable.
A final score around Georgia Tech 31, Colorado 20 fits the matchup. Colorado has enough offensive talent to remain competitive for stretches, but Georgia Tech should eventually control the line of scrimmage and pull away beyond the one-touchdown margin.
