No. 24 Louisville opens its season against No. 9 Ole Miss in the Music City Kickoff at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on ABC, with the Rebels favored by 6.5 points in Pete Golding's first full season as head coach.
Ole Miss returns significantly more proven quarterback production, but Louisville enters Year 4 under Brohm after winning at least nine games in each of his first three seasons. Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz takes over the Cardinals offense after spending three seasons behind talented quarterback rooms in Columbus.

Louisville finished 9-4 overall and 4-4 in ACC play last season. The Cardinals endured a four-game losing streak in November before rebounding with a 41-0 win over Kentucky and a 27-22 victory over Toledo in the Boca Raton Bowl, giving Brohm his third consecutive season with at least nine wins.
Ole Miss went 13-2 overall and 7-1 in SEC play during a historic season. The Rebels beat Tulane in the CFP first round and Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl before their run ended with a 31-27 loss to Miami in the national semifinal.

Louisville vs. Ole Miss Line Movement and Betting Splits
Ole Miss opened around -6.5, briefly climbed to -7.5 earlier in the week and has since returned to -6.5. The total opened around 55.5 before settling at 54.5.
The Rebels are the clear public side with 77% of spread bets and 74% of the money, compared with 23% of tickets and 26% of the handle on Louisville. There is no sharp Louisville split to force here, but Ole Miss's inability to remain above the key touchdown despite heavy support makes the return to +6.5 interesting.

Ole Miss has the most established individual offensive player in the matchup. Chambliss exploded for 3,937 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions last season after taking over the starting job, while Kewan Lacy returns after leading the FBS with 306 rushing attempts.
That continuity is a major advantage, particularly because Louisville is asking Kienholz to make his first start as a full-time college QB1. He completed only 21 of 36 career attempts for 250 yards and one touchdown at Ohio State, although Brohm has consistently praised his arm strength and athleticism.
The Cardinals are also replacing four offensive-line starters, which creates legitimate concern against SEC personnel. Louisville added five transfer linemen to rebuild the unit, but communication and chemistry are difficult to fully replicate before a live game.
The reason to still trust Louisville is everything around the quarterback. Isaac Brown returns after rushing for 884 yards last season and finished the year by breaking a 53-yard touchdown in the bowl victory over Toledo. Brohm can lean on the running game and avoid forcing Kienholz into a high-volume passing battle immediately.
Louisville also brings a defense capable of keeping the game inside one possession. The Cardinals entered last year's bowl ranked inside the national top 20 in total defense at 300.3 yards allowed per game and had intercepted 14 passes. They also shut out Kentucky 41-0 before holding Toledo to three points through three quarters.
Ole Miss remains dangerous, but there has still been a significant organizational transition since last season's playoff run. Golding coached the final three games after taking over and now enters his first full season in charge, while the Rebels supplemented the roster with another massive transfer class. The returning stars reduce the learning curve, but this is not simply the exact same operation that opened 2025.
Brohm has also shown his teams can play with elite opponents. Louisville is 2-2 against Top 10 teams under him, including last season's 24-21 road victory over No. 2 Miami. Getting nearly a touchdown at a neutral site gives the Cardinals room to lose a tight game without needing Kienholz to immediately outplay Chambliss.

Ole Miss deserves to be favored behind Chambliss and Lacy, but Louisville has won nine games in three consecutive seasons under Brohm and brings enough defensive strength and rushing production to avoid making the game entirely about its new quarterback.
The spread also touched Ole Miss -7.5 before falling back to -6.5 despite 77% of tickets backing the Rebels. Louisville does not need to win outright to cash, and Brohm's recent results against Top 10 competition make nearly a touchdown valuable in Nashville.
