Florida vs. Missouri Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest CFB Odds for Saturday, October 3rd

The Florida Gators take their undefeated start on the road for an SEC matchup against the Missouri Tigers in Columbia. Can Aaron Philo, Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark keep Florida’s punishing ground game rolling against an Missouri defense coming off its most difficult performance of the season? Check out this Florida vs. Missouri prediction and best bet for Saturday, October 3.

Florida vs. Missouri Prediction: Will Jadan Baugh, Gators Continue Torrid Start on the Road at Mizzou?

Florida heads to Memorial Stadium at Faurot Field for a 3:30 PM ET matchup against Missouri on ABC with the Gators laying 5.5 points. Florida is 4-0 and 2-0 in SEC play after consecutive statement wins over Auburn and Ole Miss, while Missouri returns home at 3-1 after dropping its conference opener at Mississippi State.

The matchup is particularly appealing because of how Florida has evolved offensively. The Gators are no longer dependent on Philo carrying the entire scoring burden through the air. Baugh and Clark have developed into one of the most dangerous rushing combinations in the conference, creating a difficult assignment for a Missouri defense that surrendered nearly 500 yards last week.

Florida vs. Missouri Recent Results

Florida Gators (4-0), (2-0 SEC)

Florida produced its most impressive performance of the season with a 52-28 victory over Ole Miss. The Gators rushed for 302 yards, controlled possession for nearly 37 minutes and scored touchdowns on all five of their second-half possessions.

Baugh carried 29 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns, while Clark needed only 12 attempts to produce 126 yards and another score. The two backs repeatedly punished Ole Miss after contact and created chunk runs as the game progressed, including touchdown runs and explosive gains that prevented the Rebels from loading up against Philo.

Philo did not need huge passing volume, completing 16 of 23 attempts while protecting the football and adding a rushing touchdown. That balance is important because Florida has now shown it can win a road shootout, as it did 44-39 at Auburn, or lean on the running game to wear down an opponent over four quarters.

Missouri Tigers (3-1), (0-1 SEC)

Missouri suffered its first loss in a 31-24 defeat at Mississippi State. The Tigers overcame an early 14-0 deficit and actually took a 24-17 fourth-quarter lead before Mississippi State scored the final two touchdowns.

Austin Simmons threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns, with Cayden Lee producing 11 catches for 156 yards and two scores. The passing game therefore remains dangerous, particularly when Missouri is forced to increase its tempo and chase points.

The defensive performance is the bigger concern for this matchup. Mississippi State produced 499 total yards, with Kamario Taylor throwing for 360 and Fluff Bothwell rushing for 122. Missouri had trouble preventing explosive offense through multiple avenues, and Florida now arrives with an even more physical rushing attack.

Florida vs. Missouri Head to Head

Missouri holds a narrow 7-6 advantage in the all-time series, with the programs splitting their first 12 meetings as SEC opponents. The Tigers have also won two of the last three entering Saturday.

  • November 18, 2023: Missouri 33, Florida 31
  • October 8, 2022: Florida 24, Missouri 17
  • November 20, 2021: Missouri 24, Florida 23
  • October 31, 2020: Florida 41, Missouri 17

The most recent meeting was decided by a field goal in the final seconds after Florida briefly took a late lead. The rosters and coaching staffs have changed enough that the 2023 result carries limited direct value, but Missouri has historically made Florida work in Columbia.

Florida is only 2-4 in its six previous trips to Missouri. That home-field history deserves consideration with the Gators now laying more than a field goal, although the current Florida roster enters with considerably more offensive balance than several of those previous teams.

Florida vs. Missouri Line Movement and Betting Splits

Florida opened much closer to a field-goal favorite before the market moved aggressively toward the Gators. The current -5.5 represents a substantial adjustment, particularly following Florida’s dominant win over Ole Miss and Missouri’s first loss.

DraftKings betting splits have also been heavily tilted toward Florida, with roughly 90% of spread tickets and more than 90% of the handle backing the Gators. Unlike a market where the money and ticket counts disagree, this is mostly straightforward support for a team whose stock has risen quickly during its 4-0 start.

The total has climbed into the 57.5 range as well. Florida has scored 44 and 52 points in its first two SEC games, so the market is clearly respecting an offense that has translated its early nonconference production against stronger competition.

Florida vs. Missouri Prediction

Florida’s rushing advantage is the foundation of the handicap. The Gators just ran for 302 yards against Ole Miss and have averaged more than 270 rushing yards through their first two SEC games. That production is no longer coming from one player, either, with Baugh providing the physical inside element and Clark capable of turning a crease into an explosive gain.

Missouri’s performance at Mississippi State creates a difficult comparison. Bothwell ran for 122 yards, and the Bulldogs remained balanced enough for Taylor to throw for 360. Florida can attack the same structural problem with an even deeper rushing rotation and an offense that does not need Philo to throw 40 times to generate points.

That matters because Missouri’s offense is much more comfortable when Simmons can operate in a balanced game. Jamal Roberts gives the Tigers a legitimate rushing presence and Lee is dangerous outside, but falling behind Florida would force Simmons into increasingly predictable passing situations.

Florida’s defense does not have to completely shut down Missouri for -5.5 to cash. The Gators just allowed Ole Miss to reach 28 and still won by 24 because their offense continued scoring after halftime. A similar script works here if Florida can consistently turn Missouri’s defensive stops into long, physically draining possessions.

Missouri’s best argument is home field and Simmons’ ability to attack vertically. The Tigers have enough passing talent to make Florida uncomfortable, and the Gators cannot assume the same rushing dominance automatically translates to another road environment. A couple of explosive completions could keep this within one possession deep into the second half.

The difference should emerge when Missouri has to stop the run with the game on the line. Florida can stay committed to Baugh and Clark even if the first few possessions are inefficient, while Missouri just allowed Mississippi State to attack successfully both on the ground and through the air. That gives Florida more sustainable offensive answers over four quarters.

The number also remains below a full touchdown. Florida does not need to reproduce the Ole Miss margin, and a 34-27 or 38-28 type of victory is enough. With the stronger rushing identity and the better ability to dictate game script, the Gators have a clear path to separating late.

Florida vs. Missouri Best Bet

Florida’s current offense is particularly difficult for Missouri because the Tigers cannot simply devote resources to stopping Philo. Baugh and Clark can control the game on the ground, and Missouri has already shown vulnerability against an offense capable of maintaining that type of balance.

The market has taken away the early number near a field goal, but -5.5 still keeps the wager below seven. Florida’s rushing advantage should become more pronounced as the game progresses and give the Gators enough late separation to cover on the road.
