5 Minute ReadKentucky vs. South Carolina Prediction: Can LaNorris Sellers, Gamecocks Rally After Slow Start?
South Carolina returns to Williams-Brice Stadium after consecutive losses to Mississippi State and Alabama, laying exactly three points against Kentucky at 4:15 PM ET on SEC Network. The Gamecocks are only 2-2 and 0-2 in the conference, while Kentucky arrives at 3-1 following wins over Texas A&M and South Alabama.
The recent records create an interesting buy-low situation. Kentucky’s 3-1 start includes an impressive road victory in College Station, but South Carolina has faced a considerably more difficult two-game stretch and showed more offensive life against Alabama than the 49-18 final score suggests.
Kentucky vs. South Carolina Recent Results
Kentucky Wildcats (3-1), (1-1 SEC)
Kentucky cruised past South Alabama 45-21 behind a dominant rushing performance. The Wildcats ran for 376 yards and five touchdowns, with three different running backs reaching 100 yards.
C.J. Baxter led the group with 149 yards on 16 carries, Jason Patterson added 137 yards and three touchdowns on 12 attempts and Javonte Barnes contributed another 100 yards. Kentucky scored 31 unanswered points after falling behind 21-14 late in the first half.
Kenny Minchey threw for 177 yards and a touchdown without needing to carry the offense. The Wildcats have been at their best when the running game creates manageable situations and allows Minchey to operate efficiently rather than asking him to consistently win from obvious passing downs.
South Carolina Gamecocks (2-2), (0-2 SEC)
South Carolina’s record has deteriorated quickly after opening with blowout victories over Kent State and Towson. The Gamecocks lost 41-34 to Mississippi State before traveling to Tuscaloosa and falling 49-18 against Alabama.
The Alabama score was ugly, but South Carolina moved the ball better than 18 points suggests. Sellers threw for 185 yards and added 72 on the ground, while Matt Fuller rushed for 112 yards on 19 carries. The Gamecocks produced 419 total yards but repeatedly failed to turn productive possessions into touchdowns.
That finishing problem has to improve immediately. South Carolina reached Alabama territory early and came away empty from scoring opportunities, allowing the Tide to create separation despite the Gamecocks moving the football.
The defense also enters without Dylan Stewart, who will miss the Kentucky game while suspended. Losing one of the front’s most disruptive players creates an obvious concern against a Kentucky rushing attack coming off its best performance of the season.
Kentucky vs. South Carolina Head to Head
South Carolina leads the all-time series 22-14-1 and has taken control of the recent meetings. The Gamecocks enter Saturday with four consecutive victories over Kentucky.
- September 27, 2025: South Carolina 35, Kentucky 13
- September 7, 2024: South Carolina 31, Kentucky 6
- November 18, 2023: South Carolina 17, Kentucky 14
- October 8, 2022: South Carolina 24, Kentucky 14
The last two meetings have been particularly convincing, with South Carolina winning by a combined 47 points. Those results came with different personnel, but the broader matchup history shows that the Gamecocks have repeatedly disrupted Kentucky’s preferred offensive structure.
Kentucky’s current rushing depth makes this version of the matchup more difficult, especially without Stewart. Still, South Carolina has consistently made Kentucky play from uncomfortable down-and-distance situations during the recent series.

Kentucky vs. South Carolina Line Movement and Betting Splits
South Carolina opened closer to a touchdown favorite before the market moved sharply toward Kentucky. The current -3 therefore represents a substantially cheaper entry point on the Gamecocks than the opening number.
Current sportsbook betting has been much more balanced than the size of that move might suggest, with the spread ticket and handle percentages sitting close to even around the field-goal range. Kentucky’s recent results have clearly earned market respect, but the adjustment from the opener has already priced much of that improvement into the matchup.
Getting South Carolina at exactly -3 is significant. A field-goal Gamecocks win produces a push rather than a loss, which becomes valuable in a matchup where both teams have shown they can play competitive fourth-quarter SEC games.
Kentucky vs. South Carolina Prediction
Kentucky deserves more respect than a simple “overhyped” label would imply. Beating Texas A&M on the road was a legitimate result, and the Wildcats followed it with 376 rushing yards against South Alabama. Baxter, Patterson and Barnes give Kentucky three backs capable of punishing poor tackling.
The question is whether that production transfers directly to a more physical SEC road game. South Alabama allowed Kentucky to consistently reach the second level untouched, and Minchey rarely had to operate in difficult passing situations. South Carolina’s objective will be to reduce those clean early-down runs and force the quarterback to manufacture offense.
Stewart’s absence makes that challenge harder, but South Carolina still has enough defensive speed to avoid being defined by one missing edge defender. The Gamecocks also know exactly what Kentucky wants to do after controlling this series for four consecutive seasons.
The more important edge may come when South Carolina has the football. Sellers remains capable of stressing Kentucky with both his arm and legs, and the Alabama performance contained more encouraging signs than the scoreboard suggests. South Carolina reached 419 total yards against the Crimson Tide, with Fuller giving the offense a second legitimate rushing threat.
Finishing drives is the obvious adjustment. South Carolina cannot repeatedly cross midfield and leave without points the way it did in Tuscaloosa. Kentucky has enough rushing depth to punish wasted possessions, particularly if the Gamecocks fall behind and allow the Wildcats to dictate tempo.
This is also a major change in competition for Kentucky after South Alabama. The Wildcats have already proved they can beat a quality opponent at Texas A&M, but they were also beaten 45-17 at home by Alabama. Their ceiling is real, yet so is their vulnerability when a stronger opponent takes away the run and forces Minchey to create consistently.
South Carolina is being priced after two losses against Mississippi State and Alabama, while Kentucky is being priced after consecutive wins. At -3, that recent-form contrast creates an attractive opportunity to back the Gamecocks at home before the number asks them to create more than one score of separation.

The Stewart suspension and Kentucky’s rushing depth create legitimate concerns, but the number has already fallen substantially from the opener. South Carolina only needs to win by more than a field goal, and a three-point victory pushes.
Sellers and Fuller showed enough against Alabama to suggest the offense is closer to breaking through than the 2-2 record indicates. Against a Kentucky team coming off a much softer defensive matchup, South Carolina has a strong chance to turn its recent offensive yardage into points and extend its winning streak in the series.
