5 Minute ReadVanderbilt vs. Georgia Prediction: Do Jared Curtis, Commodores Stand a Chance Against Bulldogs in Massive SEC Spread?
No. 2 Georgia returns to Sanford Stadium for Homecoming when Vanderbilt visits Athens at 12:45 PM ET on SEC Network. The Bulldogs are 4-0 and 2-0 in conference play, while Vanderbilt enters at 3-1 after suffering its first loss of the season at Auburn.
Georgia is favored by 25 points, yet the total is only 51. That combination creates an important handicap because the market is pricing in a dominant Georgia victory without requiring Vanderbilt to contribute much scoring.
Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Recent Results
Vanderbilt Commodores (3-1), (0-1 SEC)
Vanderbilt suffered its first loss with a 21-15 defeat at Auburn. The Commodores actually outgained the Tigers 311-279 but converted only four of 17 third downs and scored just one touchdown.
Freshman quarterback Jared Curtis generated 245 total yards, throwing for 199 and rushing for a team-high 46. Junior Sherrill caught six passes for 95 yards, while Sedrick Alexander scored Vanderbilt's only touchdown on a three-yard run.
Vanderbilt showed an ability to sustain possession, including a 14-play, 75-yard touchdown drive coming out of halftime. The problem was finishing those drives, with Brock Taylor accounting for three field goals while the Commodores repeatedly stalled before reaching the end zone.
That matters considerably against Georgia. Moving the ball between the 20s is not enough when facing a defense that has been particularly dominant near its own goal line and at the line of scrimmage.
Georgia Bulldogs (4-0), (2-0 SEC)
Georgia continued its dominant opening month with a 41-13 victory over Oklahoma. The Bulldogs led 28-0 at halftime and have now scored at least 40 points in all four games.
The final score was more impressive than Georgia's raw offensive yardage. The Bulldogs finished with 308 total yards, while the defense repeatedly created short fields and directly contributed an 85-yard fumble return touchdown from Chris Cole.
Georgia held Oklahoma to 65 rushing yards and forced four turnovers. The Bulldogs have now held consecutive SEC opponents Arkansas and Oklahoma to a combined 82 rushing yards.
Georgia enters Saturday averaging 54.8 points per game while allowing only 13.3. The offense has received plenty of attention, but the run defense has been even more dominant at just 50.5 yards allowed per game.
Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Head to Head
Georgia leads the all-time series 61-20-2 and has won six consecutive meetings. The Bulldogs have repeatedly controlled Vanderbilt at the line of scrimmage during the current streak.
- October 14, 2023: Georgia 37, Vanderbilt 20
- October 15, 2022: Georgia 55, Vanderbilt 0
- September 25, 2021: Georgia 62, Vanderbilt 0
- August 31, 2019: Georgia 30, Vanderbilt 6
The most recent meeting ended 37-20, but even that final score disguised how completely Georgia controlled the game. The Bulldogs piled up more than 500 yards and held Vanderbilt to only 18 rushing yards.
The rosters have changed considerably since 2023, but Georgia's ability to erase Vanderbilt's ground game remains highly relevant with Curtis now making an early-career road start in Athens.

Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Line Movement and Betting Splits
Georgia opened around a 23.5 to 24.5-point favorite and has moved into the -25 range, with some books already reaching -25.5. The much more significant adjustment has come on the total, which opened as high as 57.5 before falling into the 50.5 to 51 range.
DraftKings' current total splits are overwhelmingly tilted toward the Over at 50.5. Despite that support, the market has still moved substantially downward from the opener, making the six-plus point collapse in the total more meaningful than the raw ticket distribution.
The spread is much more straightforward, with Georgia receiving overwhelming support from both tickets and handle. Bettors clearly expect another comfortable Bulldogs victory, but a Georgia blowout does not necessarily require a high-scoring game.
Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Prediction
The immediate concern with an Under is obvious. Georgia is averaging 54.8 points by itself and has reached 40 in every game. The Bulldogs have already scored 63, 70, 45 and 41 points, so this is not a conventional spot to fade their offense.
The spread and total interaction tells a different story. Georgia is favored by 25 with a total of only 51, leaving a rough market expectation around 38-13. If Vanderbilt struggles to reach double digits, Georgia can dominate the game and still leave considerable room below the total.
That is where Georgia's defense becomes the central piece. The Bulldogs are allowing only 50.5 rushing yards per game and just held Oklahoma to 65 after Arkansas managed 17 the previous week. Vanderbilt relied on Curtis' legs for much of its rushing production at Auburn, and asking a freshman quarterback to create consistently against this front is a major challenge.
Vanderbilt also showed last week how it can help an Under even while moving the football. The Commodores produced 311 yards and a 14-play touchdown drive but finished with only 15 points because drives repeatedly stalled. Long possessions that end in field goals are exactly the type of sequence that can drain clock without threatening a 51-point total.
Georgia does not necessarily need to remain aggressive for four quarters. If the Bulldogs lead 28-3 or 31-7 entering the second half, Kirby Smart can lean on the running game, shorten the contest and work deeper into the roster. The -25 spread creates a realistic scenario where the game becomes less explosive once Georgia establishes control.
The largest risk is Georgia's defense and special teams creating points themselves. Cole's 85-yard fumble return against Oklahoma helped push that game to 54 despite the Bulldogs producing only 308 offensive yards. A pick-six, fumble return or series of short fields could break an Under even if Vanderbilt's offense is ineffective.
The cleaner script is Georgia controlling Vanderbilt without needing those bonus scores. A result in the neighborhood of 38-7 or 41-7 gives the Bulldogs another dominant victory while remaining below 51. With Vanderbilt stepping up dramatically in defensive competition and the total already falling more than six points from its opening range, that script is attractive.
Vanderbilt vs. Georgia Best Bet
- Best Bet: Under 51 (-110) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Georgia does not need Vanderbilt's help to build a huge lead, but that is precisely why the Under can work. The Bulldogs can score into the upper 30s or low 40s and still stay below the number if their defense keeps Vanderbilt in single digits.
Curtis faces the toughest front of his young career, Vanderbilt struggled to finish drives at Auburn and a blowout would encourage Georgia to become more conservative late. The major drop from the opening total strengthens the case that 51 remains slightly too high for the likely game script.
