5 Minute ReadJacksonville State vs. Kennesaw State Prediction: Will Gamecocks Emerge Victorious on Road in Wednesday Night C-USA Clash?
Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State meet Wednesday night in a rematch of last season’s Conference USA Championship Game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM ET on CBS Sports Network at Walens Family Field at Fifth Third Stadium, with Jacksonville State favored by 3 points and the total sitting at 49.5.
The Gamecocks enter at 3-2 and have won back-to-back games, while Kennesaw State is 1-3 after dropping three straight. Jacksonville State has also started conference play 1-0, giving the Gamecocks an early opportunity to strengthen their position against the defending CUSA champion.
Jacksonville State vs. Kennesaw State Recent Results
Jacksonville State Gamecocks (3-2), (1-0 CUSA)
Jacksonville State opened conference play with a 23-13 victory over Middle Tennessee State. Caden Creel delivered one of his best performances of the season, throwing for 241 yards and a touchdown while adding 119 rushing yards and another score.
That dual-threat element has become increasingly important for Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks have now won consecutive games after beating Georgia Southern 31-27, responding well to early losses against North Dakota State and Ohio.
The Ohio result was particularly useful despite being a loss. Jacksonville State pushed the game into four overtimes before falling 29-27, showing the offense could remain competitive on the road against a solid defensive opponent.
Creel gives the Gamecocks a clear advantage when plays break down. His ability to create with his legs keeps Jacksonville State out of some obvious passing situations and makes it difficult for defenses to simply attack the pocket.
Kennesaw State Owls (1-3), (0-0 CUSA)
Kennesaw State enters conference play after a 17-14 loss at Arkansas State. The Owls stayed competitive throughout but again struggled to generate enough offense to finish a close game.
Boogie Woods III gave the rushing attack some life with 101 yards, but Kennesaw State finished with only 119 rushing yards as a team. The passing game produced 244 yards, although the offense still managed only two touchdowns.
That followed a 42-9 loss at Tennessee and a 31-17 home defeat against Georgia State. Kennesaw State opened the season with a 47-0 victory over West Georgia, but the Owls have not scored more than 17 points in any game since.
The defense has been respectable enough to keep games from completely getting away, particularly against Arkansas State. The challenge is whether the offense can create enough sustained drives to avoid putting that defense back on the field repeatedly.
Jacksonville State vs. Kennesaw State Head to Head
Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State have developed one of the more competitive recent Conference USA rivalries. Wednesday marks the eighth all-time meeting, with five of the first seven decided by 10 points or fewer and two reaching overtime.
The matchup carries additional weight after Kennesaw State won last season’s Conference USA Championship. Jacksonville State therefore enters with a clear revenge angle, although the current roster and quarterback dynamics matter more than the title-game result itself.
The geographic proximity also adds familiarity. These programs are separated by fewer than 100 miles, reducing the normal road-travel disadvantage and creating a matchup where both staffs know the opponent extremely well.

Jacksonville State vs. Kennesaw State Line Movement and Betting Splits
Jacksonville State has settled around a field-goal favorite after spending portions of the week between -3 and -3.5. The current -3 is the more attractive entry point because it protects against a three-point Gamecocks victory.
The total has remained around 49.5, which reflects Kennesaw State’s recent offensive struggles and Jacksonville State’s more controlled style over the last two games. Neither team enters needing to play particularly fast.
The spread also fits the broader matchup. Kennesaw State has kept enough games close defensively to prevent Jacksonville State from being priced as a larger road favorite, but the Gamecocks still hold the more reliable quarterback and offensive profile.
Jacksonville State vs. Kennesaw State Prediction
Creel is the biggest separator. Jacksonville State can create offense even when the designed play breaks down because its quarterback can extend possessions with his legs. That matters against a Kennesaw State defense that has been good enough to force opponents into longer drives.
Jacksonville State also enters with considerably more offensive momentum. The Gamecocks scored 31 against Georgia Southern and followed with 23 against Middle Tennessee, while Kennesaw State has scored nine and 14 in its last two games.
The Owls’ best path is through the running game. Woods showed against Arkansas State that Kennesaw State can still create productive rushing possessions, and shortening the game would prevent Creel from accumulating too many opportunities.
The problem is that Jacksonville State can win the same type of game. Creel’s rushing ability gives the Gamecocks another number in the run game, while Lucas Farrington provides additional backfield production. Jacksonville State does not need to turn this into a high-volume passing game to control possession.
Kennesaw State also has less margin for error because of its limited scoring ceiling. If Jacksonville State reaches the mid-20s, the Owls may need their best offensive performance against an FBS opponent this season simply to keep pace.
The championship-rematch setting should make Kennesaw State highly competitive, particularly at home. That creates some risk laying points, but the current number only asks Jacksonville State to win by more than a field goal.
Jacksonville State has the better quarterback, the stronger recent offensive form and enough defensive structure to prevent Kennesaw State from consistently answering scores. A 24-17 or 27-20 type of result fits the matchup.
Jacksonville State vs. Kennesaw State Best Bet
- Best Bet: Jacksonville State -3 (-108) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Jacksonville State enters with the more trustworthy offense and the best individual playmaker at quarterback. Creel’s ability to generate production both passing and rushing gives the Gamecocks more ways to create scoring drives when the game tightens.
Kennesaw State should keep this competitive at home, but its offense has not consistently shown enough against FBS competition. Getting Jacksonville State at exactly -3 rather than -3.5 makes the Gamecocks the preferred side.
