Texas vs. Oklahoma Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest CFB Odds for Saturday, October 10th

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners return to the Cotton Bowl for another edition of the Red River Rivalry with the programs entering from dramatically different directions. Can John Mateer and an Oklahoma defense that has kept the Sooners competitive overcome Arch Manning and an undefeated Texas team looking for a third consecutive win in the series? Check out this Texas vs. Oklahoma prediction and best bet for Saturday, October 10.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Prediction: Can John Mateer, Sooners Fight Back in Lopsided Red River Rivalry?

Texas and Oklahoma meet at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for a 3:30 PM ET kickoff on ABC in one of college football’s defining rivalry games. The Longhorns enter 4-0 and 1-0 in SEC play, while Oklahoma sits at 2-2 and 0-1 after an uneven opening month.

Texas is favored by 7.5 points with an exceptionally low total of 40.5. The Longhorns have won games against Ohio State and Tennessee without needing their offense to consistently explode, while Oklahoma enters after losses to Michigan and Georgia with its defense carrying much of the burden.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Recent Results

Texas Longhorns (4-0), (1-0 SEC)

Texas remained unbeaten with a 20-17 road victory at Tennessee. The Longhorns were pushed for four quarters but again found enough offense and defensive stops to survive against a ranked opponent.

That followed a 30-6 victory over UTSA, a 24-23 win against Ohio State and a 59-7 season-opening rout of Texas State. Texas has therefore shown it can win both high-margin mismatches and tight games against elite competition.

Arch Manning enters the rivalry with 862 passing yards through four games. The offense has not always been as explosive as the preseason expectations suggested, but Texas has protected the football well enough and consistently avoided placing its defense in bad positions.

The defense has been the stronger and more stable unit. Texas has allowed only 53 points through four games and has yet to surrender more than 23 in a single contest.

Oklahoma Sooners (2-2), (0-1 SEC)

Oklahoma enters off its most difficult result of the season, a 41-13 road loss at Georgia. The Sooners were unable to sustain enough offense to prevent the Bulldogs from gradually creating separation.

That defeat followed a 14-6 win over New Mexico, a 17-10 loss at Michigan and a 51-0 season-opening victory against UTEP. Outside of the opener, Oklahoma has scored only 37 combined points across its last three games.

John Mateer remains the central piece of the offense, but the Sooners have struggled to consistently generate explosive plays or maintain offensive balance against stronger defensive opponents.

The defense has kept Oklahoma competitive for long stretches despite the offensive inconsistency. Michigan needed four quarters to pull away, and Oklahoma’s front has enough talent to create a much more difficult matchup for Texas than the Sooners’ 2-2 record suggests.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Head to Head

Texas leads the all-time series and enters Saturday with consecutive victories over Oklahoma. The Longhorns have won three of the last four Red River meetings.

  • October 11, 2025: Texas 23, Oklahoma 6
  • October 12, 2024: Texas 34, Oklahoma 3
  • October 7, 2023: Oklahoma 34, Texas 30
  • October 8, 2022: Texas 49, Oklahoma 0

Last season’s matchup was tied 3-3 late in the first half before Texas took control after halftime. Oklahoma managed only 88 second-half yards and failed to score a touchdown.

The recent series has heavily favored Texas, but rivalry games at the Cotton Bowl have repeatedly produced volatility that does not always align with each team’s broader season trajectory. Oklahoma’s 2023 upset remains a recent reminder of how quickly that can happen.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Line Movement and Betting Splits

Texas has spent much of the week favored around a touchdown before the market moved to -7.5. Crossing through seven is significant because Oklahoma backers now receive protection beyond one of the most important numbers in football.

DraftKings betting splits show a major discrepancy on the spread. Texas is receiving roughly 73% of the individual bets, but Oklahoma has attracted close to 59% of the handle at +7.5. That means the average wager on the Sooners is considerably larger.

The moneyline is overwhelmingly tilted toward Texas, while the total has drawn heavier Over support despite sitting around 40.5. The spread market is the more interesting piece because the ticket count strongly favors Texas without the money distribution following it.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Prediction

The most important number in the handicap is 7.5. Texas has the better roster and more complete profile, but the Longhorns are being asked to clear more than a touchdown in a rivalry game with a total of only 40.5. A low-scoring environment naturally makes that margin harder to create.

FairPlay AI reinforces that argument. The projection has Texas closer to -4.5 while the sportsbook is dealing -7.5, creating approximately three points of separation between the internal projection and actual market. That makes Oklahoma particularly interesting once the spread moves through seven.

Oklahoma’s offense is the obvious problem. The Sooners scored 13 at Georgia, 10 at Michigan and only 14 against New Mexico. Texas has a better defense than any unit Oklahoma has consistently moved the ball against this season, so expecting a sudden offensive breakout would be aggressive.

The spread does not require one. Oklahoma can score 13 or 17 and still cover if its defense prevents Texas from reaching the high 20s. That is realistic given how Texas has played against its best opponents, scoring 24 against Ohio State and 20 at Tennessee.

The Sooners’ defensive front gives them a chance to make Manning uncomfortable. Texas has not consistently generated explosive passing offense, and Oklahoma can force the Longhorns into exactly the type of slower game that increases the value of +7.5.

Mateer also offers enough mobility to manufacture offense when structure breaks down. Against a Texas defense that can eliminate straightforward rushing lanes and first-read throws, quarterback scrambling may be Oklahoma’s best way to extend possessions.

Texas still has the cleaner path to winning. The Longhorns have been more reliable in late-game situations, own the stronger defense and have repeatedly shown they can win without needing Manning to dominate. The distinction is between winning the game and creating eight or more points of separation.

Texas vs. Oklahoma Best Bet

Texas deserves to be favored, but a 7.5-point spread is substantial in a rivalry game carrying a total of only 40.5. Oklahoma can lose 20-14, 23-17 or 24-17 and still cash.

The FairPlay AI projection closer to Texas -4.5 provides additional support inside the Prediction section, while the larger spread wagers have also leaned toward Oklahoma despite most tickets backing Texas. The Sooners’ defense gives them enough of a foundation to keep another Red River matchup within one possession.
