5 Minute ReadUSC vs. Penn State Prediction: Can Trojans Capitalize on Struggling Nittany Lions in White Out Game?
USC and Penn State meet under the lights in Happy Valley for a 7:30 PM ET kickoff on NBC. The Trojans enter at 5-1 and 2-1 in the Big Ten, while Penn State has fallen to 3-2 and 0-2 after consecutive conference losses to Wisconsin and Northwestern.
Penn State remains a 2-point home favorite despite its recent struggles, with the moneyline priced at -120. Saturday also brings the annual White Out, giving the Nittany Lions one of the most significant home-field environments in college football as they attempt to stabilize their season.
USC vs. Penn State Recent Results
USC Trojans (5-1), (2-1 Big Ten)
USC rebounded from its loss to Oregon with a 25-21 victory over Washington. The Trojans trailed by 11 in the second half before producing the final 15 points and using a defensive touchdown to complete the comeback.
Jayden Maiava completed 21 of 34 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown while distributing those completions among nine receivers. He enters Saturday leading the Big Ten with 1,744 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes.
King Miller has provided 493 rushing yards, giving USC enough backfield balance to prevent opponents from treating Lincoln Riley’s offense as completely pass dependent.
The defense remains less consistent, but its performance against Washington was encouraging. USC held the Huskies to 123 first-half yards and generated enough pressure and turnovers to reverse the game after halftime.
Penn State Nittany Lions (3-2), (0-2 Big Ten)
Penn State suffered its most damaging loss of the season when Northwestern dominated the Nittany Lions 34-13. The result followed a 24-20 home loss to Wisconsin in which Penn State surrendered a 17-point lead.
Rocco Becht completed 26 of 41 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown against Northwestern. He enters Saturday with 1,108 passing yards and 10 touchdowns and brings significantly more starting experience than most quarterbacks in the country.
Chase Sowell led Penn State with 68 receiving yards and a touchdown last week, while Brett Eskildsen and Benjamin Brahmer each added 45 yards.
The major problem has been offensive identity. Penn State has struggled to establish the run against stronger competition, placing too much of the offense on Becht and preventing the Nittany Lions from consistently controlling game flow.

USC vs. Penn State Line Movement and Betting Splits
Penn State has remained a slight favorite around -1.5 to -2.5 despite losing consecutive games. The market has therefore continued to assign significant value to Beaver Stadium and the White Out environment rather than completely reacting to the Nittany Lions’ recent results.
USC has attracted the larger share of individual moneyline bets, while Penn State has received more of the handle. The split creates an interesting divide between bettors backing USC’s current form and larger wagers trusting Penn State to respond at home.
The short spread makes the moneyline particularly appealing on the USC side. At +108, the Trojans can be backed to win outright without laying additional juice to take only two points.
USC vs. Penn State Prediction
The quarterback and offensive-production gap is the starting point. Maiava has thrown for 1,744 yards and 15 touchdowns while leading an offense that has scored at least 25 points in every game. Penn State has failed to reach 21 in either of its first two conference matchups.
USC also has multiple ways to attack the weakness Northwestern exposed. Miller gives the Trojans a legitimate rushing threat, and Penn State just struggled to consistently control the line of scrimmage against the Wildcats. If USC establishes the run early, Maiava becomes even more dangerous through play action.
FairPlay AI supports the switch to USC. The internal projection has the Trojans around -1.5, while the actual sportsbook market makes Penn State approximately a 2-point favorite. That creates roughly 3.5 points of disagreement toward USC and makes the plus-money price particularly attractive.
The White Out is the strongest argument for Penn State. USC must handle the cross-country trip, crowd noise and communication issues that come with one of college football’s most difficult environments. False starts and protection mistakes can quickly disrupt an offense built around timing.
Penn State still needs to prove it can exploit those mistakes. Becht has plenty of starting experience, but the Nittany Lions have not established a dependable rushing attack against Big Ten competition and have repeatedly asked him to create offense from obvious passing situations.
USC’s defense does not need to dominate. If the Trojans can hold Penn State somewhere in the low-to-mid 20s, Maiava and the offense have enough scoring ability to win. That is a much more reasonable requirement than asking USC to completely shut down the Nittany Lions.
Penn State is being priced partly on preseason reputation and home field, while USC enters with the better record, stronger quarterback production and more reliable offensive identity. The White Out keeps this close, but the Trojans have enough firepower to leave Happy Valley with the outright win.
USC vs. Penn State Best Bet
- Best Bet: USC Moneyline (+108) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
USC has the stronger current offensive profile and the better quarterback production, while Penn State has scored only 33 combined points during its 0-2 Big Ten start. Taking the Trojans outright also avoids worrying about a one-point finish while providing plus-money value.
FairPlay AI makes USC a slight favorite rather than an underdog, reinforcing the matchup case in the Prediction section. Penn State’s home environment is formidable, but Maiava, Miller and USC’s offensive balance give the Trojans a strong chance to hand the Nittany Lions a third consecutive conference loss.
