Kennesaw State visits Robert W. Plaster Stadium for a 7:30 PM ET Conference USA matchup on CBS Sports Network. Both teams enter at 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play, putting significant early pressure on each side to avoid falling two games behind in the league race.
The records are identical, but Kennesaw State has been much closer to breaking through recently. The Owls have lost consecutive games by a combined four points, while Missouri State has dropped three straight and was beaten 34-13 by Western Kentucky in its CUSA opener last week.
Kennesaw State vs. Missouri State Recent Results
Kennesaw State Owls (1-4), (0-1 CUSA)
Kennesaw State came agonizingly close to opening conference play with a victory before falling 27-26 against Jacksonville State. The Owls held a nine-point advantage and had another opportunity to win on the final possession before a late turnover ended the comeback attempt.
Rickie Collins continued to provide a legitimate dual-threat element, while Brayden Munroe delivered his biggest receiving performance of the season with 159 yards. That combination gave Kennesaw State considerably more offensive life than it displayed earlier in the year.
The loss followed another one-possession defeat at Arkansas State, 17-14. Kennesaw State has therefore gone from being overwhelmed by Tennessee to playing consecutive FBS opponents within three points, suggesting the current 1-4 record undersells the team's recent improvement.
The largest problem has been self-inflicted mistakes. Penalties were particularly damaging against Jacksonville State, repeatedly putting the offense behind schedule and preventing the Owls from turning productive possessions into enough points.
Missouri State Bears (1-4), (0-1 CUSA)
Missouri State opened conference play with a 34-13 loss at Western Kentucky. The Bears allowed 233 rushing yards and were unable to slow WKU once the Hilltoppers established control of the line of scrimmage.
The quarterback situation also remains unsettled. Skyler Locklear began the game before Henry Belin IV provided a spark in relief, including a 36-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Myers during Missouri State's best offensive stretch.
Myers has been the primary explosive target and enters Wednesday averaging more than 20 yards per reception. Jmariyae Robinson gives the Bears another experienced option underneath, creating a receiving group capable of testing Kennesaw State if the protection holds up.
Missouri State has now lost to Marshall, SMU and Western Kentucky since beating Lindenwood 48-14. The Bears remained competitive against Marshall and SMU, but last week's performance represented a clear step backward.
Kennesaw State vs. Missouri State Head to Head
Kennesaw State leads the all-time series 2-0 and won the first meeting between these teams as Conference USA opponents last season.

Last year's matchup turned into a shootout, with Missouri State generating 535 total yards but still failing to finish the upset. Kennesaw State ultimately produced enough explosive offense to leave with a seven-point victory.
Wednesday is the second trip to Springfield in Kennesaw State program history. The Owls enter looking to remain unbeaten against Missouri State while earning their first conference victory of the season.

Kennesaw State vs. Missouri State Line Movement and Betting Splits
Kennesaw State is sitting between -2.5 and -3 across the broader market, putting the spread directly around the most important key number in football. The current -2.5 provides a better entry point than laying the full field goal.
Current sportsbook spread splits have generally favored Kennesaw State, with roughly 60% or more of tickets backing the Owls and the majority of spread handle also landing on the favorite. That support fits a market that has been comfortable keeping Kennesaw State favored despite the identical 1-4 records.
The moneyline distribution is more interesting. Missouri State has attracted a disproportionately high share of money compared with its ticket count, indicating some larger wagers on the home underdog. That creates legitimate resistance, but the spread market remains more supportive of Kennesaw State.
Kennesaw State vs. Missouri State Prediction
Kennesaw State's recent record is ugly, but the underlying trajectory is more encouraging than Missouri State's. The Owls lost by three at Arkansas State and one against Jacksonville State, meaning a couple of late possessions separate them from entering Wednesday at 3-2 instead of 1-4.
Collins gives Kennesaw State the most important matchup advantage. His ability to create as a runner adds another number to the box and becomes particularly valuable against a Missouri State defense that just allowed Western Kentucky to generate 233 rushing yards.
Boogie Woods gives the Owls another physical rushing option. If Missouri State has to devote extra defenders to preventing Collins and Woods from consistently reaching the second level, Munroe should receive more opportunities against single coverage after his breakout performance last week.
Missouri State can respond through the air. Myers has established himself as one of the more dangerous vertical threats in Conference USA, and both Locklear and Belin have shown they can create occasional explosive plays. Kennesaw State cannot afford another penalty-heavy performance that continuously gives the Bears favorable field position.
The Bears' larger issue is stopping the run consistently enough to force Kennesaw State out of its preferred structure. Western Kentucky rushed for more yards than it passed for last week, and Missouri State struggled badly once the Hilltoppers began controlling early downs.
Kennesaw State also owns the stronger recent defensive performance against a comparable conference opponent. Jacksonville State entered with one of CUSA's more dangerous rushing quarterbacks, yet the Owls held the Gamecocks to only 74 net rushing yards. Repeating anything close to that level should make Missouri State much more dependent on its quarterback.
The Owls have spent two consecutive weeks one possession away from winning. Against a Missouri State team that has now lost three straight and struggled to stop Western Kentucky on the ground, this is the spot for Kennesaw State to finally convert competitive football into a victory.
Kennesaw State vs. Missouri State Best Bet
- Best Bet: Kennesaw State -2.5 (-112) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Staying below the field goal is important. A three-point Kennesaw State win cashes the wager rather than merely pushing, which adds value in a matchup involving two teams that have already played several close games.
Collins' dual-threat ability and Missouri State's problems against the run create the clearest matchup edge. Kennesaw State has been closer to winning than its record suggests and should finally finish one of these one-possession games.
