Georgia Southern and Old Dominion meet at S.B. Ballard Stadium for a 7:30 PM ET kickoff on ESPN2. Both enter 2-4 overall, with Georgia Southern sitting 1-1 in Sun Belt play and Old Dominion at 1-2.
The Eagles are favored by exactly 3 points despite playing on the road. Georgia Southern nearly erased a second-half deficit against undefeated James Madison last week, while Old Dominion enters after grinding out a 10-3 road victory over App State.

Georgia Southern nearly handed James Madison its first loss of the season before falling 27-24. The Eagles trailed 20-10 entering the fourth quarter, rallied to within three and drove into position for a tying 52-yard field goal that hit the crossbar.
Max Johnson continued his strong individual stretch with 343 passing yards. He has now thrown three touchdown passes in three consecutive games, becoming the first Georgia Southern quarterback to accomplish that feat.
Josh Dallas added 111 receiving yards, giving Johnson another reliable downfield target. The Eagles' passing game has become increasingly dangerous even as the overall record remains below .500.
The defense has also shown improvement under its new coordinator. Georgia Southern has already recorded 15 sacks through six games after producing only 12 across all of last season.
Old Dominion Monarchs (2-4), (1-2 Sun Belt)
Old Dominion delivered its best defensive performance of the season in a 10-3 victory at App State. The Monarchs allowed only 158 total yards, the second-lowest total surrendered in program history.
ODU held App State to one third-down conversion in 13 attempts and forced three turnovers. Defensive end Javen Gibson finished with four tackles for loss and two sacks as the front completely controlled the game.
The offense was much more conservative. Old Dominion ran a school-record 61 times for 207 yards, with Devin Roche reaching 101 yards and Quinn Henicle adding 88.
That formula worked perfectly in Boone, but it followed consecutive losses in which ODU allowed 46 points to James Madison and 42 to Georgia State. The question is whether last week's defensive dominance represents a real correction or an opponent-specific performance.

Georgia Southern vs. Old Dominion Line Movement and Betting Splits
Georgia Southern has been trading around -3 to -3.5, keeping the market centered on the key number of a field goal. The current -3 is preferable to the -3.5 available elsewhere because a three-point Eagles victory produces a push rather than a loss.
The betting splits show an interesting disagreement. Georgia Southern has received roughly two-thirds of individual spread tickets, but Old Dominion has attracted the larger share of the handle in recent snapshots.
The moneyline tells a different story, with more than three-quarters of both tickets and money backing Georgia Southern outright. Bettors appear much more comfortable expecting an Eagles victory than asking them to create significant road separation.

Old Dominion's defensive performance against App State deserves substantial respect. Holding an FBS opponent to 158 total yards and three points is not something to dismiss simply because Georgia Southern brings a more dangerous quarterback.
Johnson creates a very different challenge. He threw for 343 yards against an undefeated James Madison team and has produced three touchdown passes in three consecutive games. ODU cannot expect to simply load the box and recreate last week's game plan.
Georgia Southern also has more downfield receiving production than App State showed. Dallas topped 100 yards last week, and Johnson has become increasingly comfortable spreading the ball around rather than locking onto one option.
The ODU running game can make this difficult. Sixty-one rushing attempts last week show exactly how the Monarchs want to play when protecting a lead. If Roche and Henicle consistently create four to five yards, Georgia Southern may have fewer possessions than usual.
That makes first-half efficiency especially important for the Eagles. An early lead forces Old Dominion to move away from its preferred run-heavy structure and ask its passing game to generate more points. That is a much more favorable script for Georgia Southern's improved pass rush.
ODU's recent history also creates some skepticism about projecting last week's defensive performance forward. Before holding App State to three, the Monarchs allowed 42 to Georgia State and 46 to James Madison. Georgia Southern has enough passing firepower to stress the secondary in ways App State could not.
The spread landing exactly on three provides valuable protection. Georgia Southern's offense offers the higher ceiling, and if Johnson continues his current form, the Eagles should generate enough scoring to win a competitive road game.

Old Dominion's defense is capable of making this ugly, particularly if the Monarchs establish the run and control possession. The current number still allows Georgia Southern to win by a field goal without losing the wager.
Johnson is playing his best football of the season, and the Eagles just came within inches of forcing overtime against undefeated James Madison. That offensive ceiling should eventually create enough separation from an ODU team that remains difficult to trust after allowing 88 combined points in the two games before App State.
