5 Minute ReadWashington vs. Purdue Prediction: Can Boilermakers Stay Hot on Friday Night Against Struggling Huskies?
Purdue hosts Washington at Ross-Ade Stadium for an 8:00 PM ET Big Ten matchup on FOX. Both teams enter 3-3 overall, but their current trajectories could hardly look more different.
Washington has lost three consecutive conference games to Minnesota, USC and Iowa, while Purdue has responded from a difficult September by beating Illinois and Minnesota in consecutive weeks. The Boilermakers are now favored by 3.5 points after opening closer to -2.5.
Washington vs. Purdue Recent Results
Washington Huskies (3-3), (0-3 Big Ten)
Washington suffered its third straight loss with a 41-24 home defeat against Iowa. The Huskies fell behind early and never completely recovered, continuing an 0-3 start to conference play.
The larger concern came at quarterback. Demond Williams Jr. left the Iowa game during the first half with an injury after completing six of 11 passes for 69 yards and did not return.
Elijah Brown replaced him and gave the offense some life after halftime. Brown led a touchdown drive immediately after entering and now could be asked to make his first start in a difficult road environment.
Washington's losing streak began with a 27-24 home loss to Minnesota before the Huskies fell 25-21 at USC. The first two defeats were highly competitive, but Iowa finally created significant separation and exposed some larger problems on both sides of the ball.
Purdue Boilermakers (3-3), (2-1 Big Ten)
Purdue has completely changed the direction of its season with consecutive Big Ten victories. The Boilermakers followed a 24-17 road win at Illinois with a dominant 41-13 home victory over Minnesota.
Ryan Browne has become the centerpiece of the turnaround. He enters Friday with 1,549 passing yards, nine touchdowns and only one interception while completing close to 70% of his passes.
The supporting rushing attack has also become increasingly reliable. Fame Ijeboi has provided physical production between the tackles, helping Purdue avoid becoming completely dependent on Browne.
The most encouraging improvement has come defensively. After surrendering 49 points to Notre Dame, Purdue held Illinois to 17 and Minnesota to 13 in consecutive games, allowing the offense to play from favorable game scripts rather than constantly chase.
Washington vs. Purdue Head to Head
Washington dominated the most recent meeting, beating Purdue 49-13 in Seattle last season.
- November 15, 2025: Washington 49, Purdue 13
- December 31, 2002: Purdue 34, Washington 24
- January 1, 2001: Washington 34, Purdue 24
The 2001 meeting came in the Rose Bowl, while Purdue answered two seasons later in the Sun Bowl. Friday represents the first regular-season meeting hosted by Purdue in the modern Big Ten era.
Last year's result provides additional motivation for the Boilermakers after Washington scored 28 first-half points and never allowed Purdue back into the game.

Washington vs. Purdue Line Movement and Betting Splits
Purdue opened around -2.5 before the market moved through the key number of three to -3.5. That adjustment is significant because it requires the Boilermakers to win by at least four rather than merely a field goal.
Current sportsbook splits still support Purdue despite the move. The Boilermakers are attracting slightly more than half of spread tickets but roughly two-thirds to 70% of the handle at -3.5, indicating larger average wagers on the favorite.
The moneyline is even more strongly tilted toward Purdue, with approximately three-quarters of both tickets and handle backing the Boilermakers outright. The total market presents the opposite type of discrepancy, with the majority of tickets on the Over but roughly 80% of the money on the Under.
Washington vs. Purdue Team News and Injuries
Williams remains the biggest injury storyline. Washington's starting quarterback is questionable after leaving the Iowa game with a significant injury and missing the entire second half.
If he cannot play, Brown is expected to take a much larger role after showing some promise in relief. Washington is also dealing with additional injuries across the backfield and offensive line, reducing the depth around whichever quarterback starts.
Purdue enters with significantly more continuity at the most important offensive positions. Browne has remained healthy and has developed into one of the more efficient quarterbacks in the conference.
Washington vs. Purdue Prediction
Purdue's improvement over the last two games looks sustainable because it has occurred on both sides of the football. The Boilermakers are not simply winning shootouts behind Browne. They held Illinois and Minnesota to 30 combined points after allowing 49 to Notre Dame in the previous game.
Browne gives Purdue the most stable quarterback situation in the matchup regardless of whether Williams plays. Nine touchdowns against one interception shows how effectively he has protected possessions, and that becomes particularly valuable when laying points rather than merely trying to win.
Washington's quarterback uncertainty creates a significant challenge on the road. Brown looked competent against Iowa, but producing in the second half of a game that had already tilted heavily toward the opponent is different from making a first start at Ross-Ade Stadium against a defense playing with confidence.
The Huskies also have to solve a rushing attack that has become more useful as Purdue's season has progressed. Ijeboi can keep the Boilermakers ahead of the chains and prevent Washington from consistently attacking Browne with obvious passing-down pressure.
There is some concern about laying -3.5 after the number already crossed three. Washington has received meaningful spread support elsewhere in the market, and the Huskies stayed within one possession against both Minnesota and USC before the Iowa loss.
The difference is that Purdue enters with legitimate momentum rather than relying on one upset. Winning at Illinois and then beating Minnesota by 28 points represents a significant shift for a program that struggled badly through most of last season.
Washington also has to make a second consecutive Friday appearance after facing Iowa only seven days earlier, then travel more than 2,000 miles east. Purdue remains home after last week's Minnesota win and does not have to deal with the same travel or quarterback uncertainty.
Washington vs. Purdue Best Bet
- Best Bet: Purdue -3.5 (-105) Check out these best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Crossing the key number from -2.5 to -3.5 removes some value, but Purdue's current form still justifies laying the short home number. The Boilermakers have won consecutive Big Ten games and are coming off their most complete performance of the season.
Browne provides the clear quarterback stability edge, while Washington could be forced to start a backup after Williams' injury against Iowa. With larger spread money also landing on Purdue, the Boilermakers have a strong opportunity to win by more than a field goal and move above .500.
