Missouri vs. Ole Miss Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest CFB Odds for Saturday, October 17th

The Missouri Tigers travel to Oxford for a top-15 SEC matchup against an Ole Miss Rebels team coming off its most dominant performance of the season. Can Jamal Roberts and Missouri control the pace against Trinidad Chambliss and a Rebels offense that has produced explosive scoring throughout the opening month? Check out this Missouri vs. Ole Miss prediction and best bet for Saturday, October 17.

Missouri vs. Ole Miss Prediction: Can Tigers Pull Upset in Oxford Top-15 Matchup?

No. 13 Missouri visits No. 9 Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for a 3:30 PM ET kickoff on SEC Network. The Tigers enter at 5-1 and 2-1 in conference play, while the Rebels sit at 4-1 and 2-1.

Ole Miss is favored by 5.5 points with the total at 58.5. Both offenses bring legitimate scoring potential, but Missouri's recent defensive dominance and its ability to control possession through Roberts create a compelling case for a more compressed game than the market expects.

Missouri vs. Ole Miss Recent Results

Missouri Tigers (5-1), (2-1 SEC)

Missouri followed its 45-17 destruction of Florida with an even more dominant defensive performance against Texas A&M, winning 27-6. The Tigers held the Aggies to 216 total yards and only 10 first downs.

Roberts carried the offense with a career-high 222 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 34 attempts. That came immediately after a 211-yard performance against Florida, giving him 433 rushing yards across his last two games.

He enters Saturday leading the SEC with 828 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. His ability to generate yards after contact has allowed Missouri to stay patient offensively without needing to constantly chase explosives.

Austin Simmons has provided the necessary balance through the air. He has completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,434 yards, 14 touchdowns and only one interception.

Ole Miss Rebels (4-1), (2-1 SEC)

Ole Miss responded from its first loss with a 52-17 rout of Vanderbilt in Nashville. The Rebels led 42-3 at halftime and forced four turnovers before working deeper into the roster after the break.

Trinidad Chambliss threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. Ole Miss also rushed for 196 yards, producing the type of balance that had been missing during portions of the 52-28 loss at Florida.

The Rebels have scored 41, 41, 52 and 52 points in four victories. Their offensive ceiling is one of the highest in the SEC when they remain ahead of the chains.

The concern is how the offense looked against the strongest physical defense it faced on the road. Florida controlled the line of scrimmage, held Ole Miss to 128 rushing yards and forced the Rebels to chase throughout the second half.

Missouri vs. Ole Miss Head to Head

Missouri leads the all-time series 7-1 and has repeatedly frustrated Ole Miss despite the programs meeting only occasionally.

  • October 12, 2019: Missouri 38, Ole Miss 27
  • November 23, 2013: Missouri 24, Ole Miss 10
  • September 8, 2007: Missouri 38, Ole Miss 25
  • September 9, 2006: Missouri 34, Ole Miss 7

Ole Miss has not beaten Missouri since 1974. The Tigers have won every meeting since then, including the most recent game played in Oxford.

Those historical results carry limited personnel value, but Missouri's repeated success against Ole Miss adds another interesting layer to a matchup where the Tigers again enter as the underdog.

Missouri vs. Ole Miss Line Movement and Betting Splits

Ole Miss opened closer to a 6 to 6.5-point favorite before the spread moved toward Missouri and settled at -5.5. The total has remained in the 58.5 to 59.5 range rather than following the spread movement.

The betting splits are almost completely opposed to the selected total. Over 58.5 is drawing approximately 71% of individual bets and an enormous 94% of the handle.

Only 29% of the tickets and 6% of the total money are currently on the Under. That makes this one of the more contrarian positions on Saturday's slate.

Missouri vs. Ole Miss Prediction

The Under case begins with Missouri's preferred offensive identity. Roberts has carried 58 times over the last two weeks, and that type of rushing volume naturally reduces possessions when the Tigers are able to stay on schedule.

Missouri also has little reason to voluntarily turn this into a track meet. The Tigers just held Texas A&M to six points and Florida to 17, using physical defense and a dominant rushing attack to control both games. That formula has produced consecutive wins over quality SEC opponents.

Ole Miss has enough offensive talent to challenge that approach, but Missouri's front is significantly better than Vanderbilt's. The Rebels will have to earn longer drives rather than assuming another avalanche of short fields and defensive takeaways.

The Tigers have also been excellent at limiting explosive offense recently. Texas A&M barely crossed midfield for long stretches, while Florida's high-powered rushing attack was completely bottled up. That gives Missouri a realistic path to holding Ole Miss below its season scoring average.

Ole Miss can help the Under defensively if it builds on last week's performance. The Rebels forced four Vanderbilt turnovers and have enough front-seven talent to prevent Roberts from simply gaining six yards every time Missouri hands him the ball.

There is obvious danger in fading two efficient quarterbacks. Simmons has thrown 14 touchdowns against one interception, while Chambliss has already shown he can turn broken plays into explosive offense. A few early touchdowns could quickly destroy the intended slower script.

The expected game still does not need to be low scoring in absolute terms. A 30-24, 31-24 or 28-27 finish all stays below 58.5. With Missouri capable of dominating possession and forcing Ole Miss into longer scoring drives, the total provides enough room.

Missouri vs. Ole Miss Best Bet

The betting market is overwhelmingly positioned on the Over, but Missouri's current form points toward a different style. The Tigers have allowed only 23 combined points across wins over Florida and Texas A&M while Roberts has become one of the most heavily used backs in the SEC.

Ole Miss remains dangerous enough to reach the upper 20s or low 30s, but Missouri can shorten the game and contribute to the Under from both sides of the ball. A competitive SEC matchup in the mid-50s is the preferred script.
