LSU Tigers White Helmets

LSU vs. Auburn Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest CFB Odds for Saturday, October 24th

The LSU Tigers head to Jordan-Hare Stadium looking to build on a dominant shutout victory against an Auburn Tigers team coming off one of the biggest upsets of the season. Can Sam Leavitt and LSU’s balanced offense create separation against Byrum Brown and an Auburn team returning home after knocking off No. 1 Georgia? Check out this LSU vs. Auburn prediction and best bet for Saturday, October 24.

LSU vs. Auburn Prediction: Can LSU Avoid Upset Against Surging Auburn?

No. 18 LSU visits Auburn for a noon ET SEC matchup on ABC. The Tigers enter 5-2 and 2-2 in conference play after shutting out Mississippi State, while Auburn sits 4-2 and 2-2 after upsetting top-ranked Georgia.

LSU is favored by exactly seven points with the total at 52. Auburn enters with considerable momentum and home-field advantage, but LSU owns one of the strongest combinations of offensive production and defensive efficiency in the country.

LSU vs. Auburn Recent Results

LSU Tigers (5-2), (2-2 SEC)

LSU delivered its most complete performance of the season with a 31-0 victory over Mississippi State. The Tigers scored 21 points before halftime and controlled the game defensively from the opening possession.

Sam Leavitt completed 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Jackson Harris caught six passes for 85 yards and two scores, while Dilin Jones added 84 rushing yards.

LSU is averaging more than 500 total yards and 40 points per game. The offense has been paired with a defense allowing fewer than 16 points and approximately 257 yards per contest, giving the Tigers a legitimate advantage on both sides of the ball.

The biggest improvement has been balance. LSU no longer needs Leavitt to carry every important possession because the running game has become productive enough to punish defenses that devote extra resources to stopping the pass.

Auburn Tigers (4-2), (2-2 SEC)

Auburn produced one of the biggest wins of the college football season last week by beating No. 1 Georgia 27-24. The Tigers built a 17-14 halftime advantage, survived Georgia’s fourth-quarter response and kicked the winning field goal late.

Byrum Brown was the centerpiece. He threw for 150 yards and a touchdown while adding 115 rushing yards and another score on 26 carries.

Jeremiah Cobb added 61 rushing yards, giving Auburn enough balance to prevent Georgia from focusing entirely on Brown. The performance showed that Auburn can win a physical game without requiring its passing attack to dominate.

The larger concern is consistency. Auburn is averaging fewer than 27 points per game and has struggled to consistently turn red-zone opportunities into touchdowns, a problem that becomes particularly significant against an LSU defense that has been excellent at limiting scoring possessions.

LSU vs. Auburn Head to Head

LSU has won the last two meetings and four of the last five.

  • October 14, 2023: LSU 48, Auburn 18
  • October 1, 2022: LSU 21, Auburn 17
  • October 2, 2021: Auburn 24, LSU 19
  • October 31, 2020: Auburn 48, LSU 11
  • October 26, 2019: LSU 23, Auburn 20

The Tigers from Baton Rouge have not always had an easy time at Jordan-Hare Stadium, where the 2022 meeting was decided by only four points.

Auburn’s win over Georgia also reinforces the danger of assuming home field will not matter simply because LSU owns the stronger overall statistical profile.

LSU vs. Auburn Line Movement and Betting Splits

LSU opened closer to a 6.5-point favorite before the market moved toward the key number of seven. Other sportsbooks have briefly reached -7.5, making the current -7 particularly important for anyone backing LSU.

DraftKings spread betting shows an interesting split. LSU is receiving only about half of the individual spread wagers but approximately 69% of the handle at -7, indicating considerably larger average wagers on the favorite.

The moneyline is much more public, with more than 80% of both tickets and money backing LSU outright. The Over has also attracted a strong majority of both wagers and handle.

LSU Tigers Injury Report and Team News

  • Whit Weeks (LB): Out, Undisclosed
  • Dashawn Spears (S): Out, Undisclosed
  • Phillip Wright III (WR): Out, Undisclosed
  • Charles Ross II (LB): Out, Undisclosed
  • Richard Anderson (DT): Out, Undisclosed

LSU remains thin at linebacker without Weeks and Ross, while Anderson’s absence reduces the interior defensive-line rotation. That matters against an Auburn offense expected to lean heavily on Brown and the ground game after rushing effectively against Georgia.

The encouraging news is who does not appear on the final report. Trey’Dez Green, Princewill Umanmielen and Harris are all available, strengthening LSU at tight end, edge rusher and receiver. Green’s potential return gives Leavitt another major matchup piece in the middle of the field.

Spears remains a significant absence in the secondary, but LSU’s pass defense has held up extremely well despite the attrition. Auburn’s inconsistent passing production should allow the Tigers to devote additional resources toward containing Brown’s legs.

Auburn Tigers Injury Report and Team News

  • Tai Buster (OL): Out, Undisclosed
  • Hunter Herring (TE): Out, Undisclosed
  • Saint Farrior (DL): Out, Undisclosed

Buster’s absence is the most important matchup issue. Auburn already faces an LSU defensive front capable of creating pressure, and missing another offensive lineman increases the challenge of protecting Brown when the Tigers fall into obvious passing situations.

Herring reduces the available tight-end depth, while Farrior’s absence affects the defensive-line rotation. Auburn otherwise enters relatively healthy after an extremely physical victory over Georgia.

The cleaner injury report is one of Auburn’s advantages. LSU has the deeper list of defensive absences, but the specific matchup up front still favors the visitors because Auburn must deal with Umanmielen and an LSU defense that has been dominant against both the run and pass.

LSU vs. Auburn Prediction

LSU enters with the more complete profile. The Tigers rank among the national leaders in total offense while simultaneously allowing fewer than 260 yards per game, giving them multiple paths to control the matchup.

Leavitt is the biggest difference. His 289-yard, four-touchdown performance against Mississippi State showed what the offense looks like when he protects the football and LSU stays balanced. Auburn cannot simply crowd the line against Jones without creating opportunities for Harris, Green and the rest of the receiving group.

Auburn’s rushing attack is the primary reason to respect the home underdog. Brown just rushed for 115 yards against Georgia and can create offense even when the original play breaks down. LSU has to maintain disciplined rush lanes rather than allowing its pressure to open scrambling opportunities.

The matchup becomes much more difficult for Auburn if LSU gets ahead. Brown has thrown eight touchdowns against seven interceptions this season, and the Tigers do not want to become dependent on high-volume dropback passing against LSU’s secondary and pass rush.

Auburn’s win over Georgia also creates a complicated situational spot. The Tigers deserve credit for beating the No. 1 team, but repeating that level of emotional and physical performance one week later against another ranked opponent is a difficult assignment.

LSU is also coming off the exact opposite type of game. The Tigers handled Mississippi State 31-0, kept Leavitt clean and did not need a stressful fourth quarter. That leaves LSU positioned well physically for another SEC road test.

The key is getting exactly seven rather than 7.5. LSU can win 27-20 or 31-24 and avoid a losing ticket, while the offensive and defensive advantages create several paths to an eight-plus-point margin.

LSU vs. Auburn Best Bet

Auburn’s home field and recent win over Georgia make this dangerous, but LSU owns the stronger quarterback play, the better overall defense and a much more consistent offensive profile.

The betting handle also favors LSU despite a relatively even ticket distribution on the spread. At exactly seven, the Tigers are positioned to turn their statistical advantages into another SEC victory while retaining protection on a one-touchdown final margin.
