After losing to the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 38-35 in Week 1, the Lions performed admirably in Week 2 by defeating the Washington Commanders 36-27. The over hit in each game, and the Lions have covered both contests.
On Monday Night Football in Philadelphia, the Vikings played poorly and lost 24-7. The Vikings managed just 62 yards on the ground while converting just one of four red-zone opportunities and one of three goal-line opportunities.
Let’s take a closer look at how things might play out when these two square off Sunday in a pivotal NFC North matchup.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions Same-Game Parlay Picks
Minnesota Vikings -5.5 (-110)
Kirk Cousins' putrid performance on Monday night will need to be quickly put behind him as he now heads to Detroit to take on a team that is increasingly confident. Luckily for Vikings fans, Cousins is playing the right team. A career 7-2 against the lions, Cousins has a TD:INT ratio of 19:2 over those starts as the Vikings have dominated their divisional foe.Â
The Lions will be asking a lot of their rookie defensive end, Aidan Hutchinson, as they did in their first win of the season last week where he got three sacks in the 36-27 over Washington. Offensively, however, I don’t think the Lions have the firepower to get past a Minnesota defense that will be coming into this one ticked off following a poor performance of their one Monday night.Â
Look for the Vikings to roll late.Â
Anytime Touchdown Scorer - Amon-Ra St. Brown (+115)
Already looking like one of the fantasy sleepers of the year, St. Brown has 180 yards and three touchdowns through two games. He also comes into this game averaging 10.6 yards per catch, as his 17 receptions lead the team by more than 2x.
Already in the top 10 in the NFL in all of the aforementioned metrics, and I like another game plan that favors St. Brown. So far he’s been targeted 24 times and averaging eight receptions per game; giving him plenty of chances to find pay dirt in this one.Â
1st Touchdown Scorer - Justin Jefferson (+550)
On 23 targets, Justin Jefferson has intercepted 15 passes, ranking seventh in the NFL, for a total of 232 yards and two scores. Over two games played, he is averaging 7.5 catches and 116.0 yards.
He also has found success against this Lions team in recent memory. In their last meeting, Jefferson reeled in 11 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown. With the Lions' secondary not improved from that instance, I like another big game for Jefferson and for him and Cousins to bounce back in this spot.Â
