Monday Night Football Preview
The Chicago Bears had a chance to defeat the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football but fell short. They're now 2-4 on the season and will take on a red-hot Patriots team that has won two straight games by a combined score of 67-15.
In those two games, it's been Bailey Zappe under center for the Patriots. He's a rookie out of Western Kentucky who led all of college football in touchdowns thrown last season. It's still unclear if Mac Jones can return in Week 7 for the Patriots.
On the other hand, the Bears are still trying to develop Justin Fields. He's missed some reads but doesn't have a great supporting cast this year. Can Fields find a way to earn more offense with the Bears? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Sunday's game between the New England Patriots vs. Chicago Bears.
New England Patriots vs. Chicago Bears Prediction
As of now, it's looking like Bailey Zappe will get another start for the Patriots on Sunday. Some fans want him to stay quarterback with Jones comes back! The Patriots have averaged 367.8 yards per game and have gotten good quarterback play out of Zappe. Once he got situated and comfortable, he played exceptionally well.
The entire offense is playing well. The offensive line has stood up strong in the passing game. They're also helping the run game work its magic, earning 131.3 yards per game. Damien Harris was the starting running back, but he's currently injured, allowing Rhamondre Stevenson to carry the starting spot for the time being. He hasn't disappointed either.
The defense has looked very disciplined. They've made big tackles and have been slightly above average in coverage and pass rush this season. The run defense isn't playing as well, but they've only allowed 119 yards per game in the run game.
On the other hand, Chicago has allowed 163 yards per game on the ground. The coverage has been better, as the Bears have given up just 190.5 yards per game in the air. After all, the Bears have allowed just 19.7 points per game. That's good enough, despite having a terrible run defense.
However, the offense hasn't done much to give Chicago any hope. The offense scored 15.5 points per game behind Justin Fields, who only threw for 869 yards this season. He's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season. Of course, he's still a threat in the run game. The Bears, as a team, are a threat in the run game. Meanwhile, the one area where New England has struggled a bit is in the passing game.
I like Chicago to commit to the run game and have success. The Bears have had extra time to prepare for this game and correct mistakes from last week. Therefore, I've got the Over 39.5.
