Both of these teams just suffered disappointing losses on Sunday, with the Panthers losing to the Los Angeles Rams 24-10. After a pick-6 by CB Donte Jackson late in the first half, Carolina, who was a 7.5-point underdog, took a 10-7 lead, but the Panthers failed to score the rest of the way as the Rams rolled late.
As for the Buccaneers, they fell on the road to a struggling Pittsburgh Steelers team, losing 20-18 despite being 9.5-point road favorites. Tom Brady isn't performing at his usual level, with much of the issue revolving around an offensive line that can't keep him upright.
Let's take a closer look at a few players I think will find pay dirt in this one.
Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Best Anytime TD Picks
Anytime Touchdown Scorer - Leonard Fournette (-155)
Behind a well-documented poor offensive line, emphasized by another Tom Brady tantrum last week in Pittsburgh, the rushing game has suffered in Tampa this season. Even still, Fournette has found the end zone four times, with three coming through the air as he averages 7.3 yards per catch to start the year.
While I expect the offensive line to improve, it shouldn’t have to here against a Panthers team that rankings in the bottom half of the league in rushing yards allowed at 133.3 per game. Look for the Buccaneers to run away with this and for Lenny to be a major catalyst of that.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer - PJ Walker (+1000)
In a less-than-ideal scenario for Walker, his first team in the NFL has been the Panthers which has had him running for his life up to this point. With Matt Rhule now gone, Walker will now be handed the keys indefinitely, and I think we see him open up his game in this one.
Having watched him play in the now-defunct XFL, Walker has a set of wheels on him we have not yet seen in the NFL. Likely on the move again in this one. Look for the QB to get around the corner on at least one occasion, and if in the red zone, find the goal line before all is said and done.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer - Mike Evans (+105)
Allowing 223.5 yards per game through the air, the Panthers also rank in the bottom half of the league in passing yards allowed entering this week. Now, they’re dealing with two potential secondary players in, Sean Chandler and Donte Jackson missing this one; both are listed as questionable as of Friday.
Averaging 14.9 yards per catch with 358 yards through five games, this should set up a strong day for Buc’s WR Mike Evans, as Brady is likely licking his chops in the film room this week as-is.
