Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans Prediction
The Titans have now won the division in two straight seasons, and they can make it a third with a win on the road tonight. The Titans and Jaguars are in a "win-and-in" situation tonight, as the Titans only make the playoffs by winning tonight. The Jaguars technically can still make the playoffs with a loss but would need the Dolphins, Patriots, and Steelers to lose. With such a big game on the line, what is the best bet?
There was a time this season when the Titans were 7-3 and looked like they were going to run away with the division. Now, in Week 18, they are in a win-and-in game against the Jaguars in Jacksonville, Florida. Six straight losses and a problem under center have forced Mike Vrabel into a difficult position, as he is now starting a quarterback signed on December 21st in the biggest game of the season. Can Joshua Dobbs pull off the win as an underdog on the road and carry the Titans to the postseason? I liked what I saw from Dobbs last week as a passer, and he looked much better throwing the ball than Willis and a whole lot more confident, too. That brings me to my prop bet on this game, which is on Titan's receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
With a more competent passer under center, I love Nick Westbrook-Ikhine to hit his receiving line tonight. For starters, Treylon Burks is now on the injury report and listed as questionable. If Burks isn't 100% in this game, Westbrook-Ikhine should see an even more increased amount of action tonight. Burks missed the first meeting of the season, and Westbrook-Ikhine played a season-high 64 of 67 snaps and hit 23 yards. What makes Westbrook-Ikhine a good bet tonight is that his line is hittable with one catch at 19.5 yards. He is leading the team with a 15.9 average yards per catch. With Westbrook-Ikhine being a dark horse for a big play and eyes on Derrick Henry and Robert Woods, this is a very doable line for the third-year player.
Derrick Henry was rested last week and had been recovering from an injury, but he is expected to go in this game, which is big. Henry had a massive game against the Jaguars in their previous meeting this season, rushing for 121 yards on 17 attempts. With 7.1 yards per attempt, the Jag's defense will have to stack the box and stop Henry to win. The Jags forced four total turnovers to win that game, including two fumbles from Henry, but they are most likely not getting four turnovers to rely on again. Derrick Henry gashed the defensive line in the last meeting, so I expect the Jags to put more pressure up front to stop him, which will open up the passing game a bit more.
That said, Westbrook-Ikhine can hit this line tonight with relative ease. The reason his line is so low is that he has only hit this line in seven of his 16 games this season, but tonight he should play more than usual. Westbrook-Ikhine has only logged 50+ snaps in five games this season, hitting over 20 yards in three of them. The only two he didn't hit this line in were against the Eagles and Chargers, who both are top-10 secondaries. Jacksonville has the 29th-ranked secondary. Westbrook-Ikhine should see 50+ snaps tonight, especially with Burks dealing with an injury.
Lastly, the Titans are near touchdown dogs in this game, meaning they will likely be playing in a negative game script. If this is the case, they will have to pass more and hit some big plays, including at least one or two shots to their highest-average pass catcher, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. 19.5 yards is a low line that he hasn't hit much this season, but this is a sneaky spot to grab who should be the WR2 in this game. Let's cash in on this one tonight.
