Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans Prediction
This is basically a playoff game tonight, as the winner will advance, and the loser will go home. The fact that the Titans can still make the playoffs is somewhat insane. The Titans have not won a football game since November 17th. It is currently January 7th. Tennessee has lost a staggering six games in a row, including getting blown out by this Jaguars team in the Music City. The reason for their downfall could be due to the injuries that they have sustained. Most notably, they have been without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill is not a top-tier quarterback by any means, but he is a much better option than what is behind him.
The Titans gave rookie quarterback Malik Willis an opportunity, but they were not happy with his play, so they turned to third-string quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Dobbs played pretty well last week against the Cowboys, but the Titans came up two touchdowns short. Dobbs will get another opportunity today with a division championship on the line.
The Jags, meanwhile, probably did not think that they would be playing for a division championship six weeks ago. Jacksonville enters play winners of four in a row and five of their last six. The quick turnaround in Jacksonville is pretty remarkable. People forget that this was the worst team in football a season ago, with one of the worst head coaches in NFL history, Urban Meyer. Doug Pederson has come in, and he has done an outstanding job turning this team around. Trevor Lawrence has really improved this year under Pederson, and he has shown the world why he was a former No. 1 overall pick. The Jaguars' defense has been stellar the last couple of weeks, as they have not allowed a touchdown in their last nine quarters of play.
Despite everything going well for the Jags at the moment, the Jags having the home-field advantage in Jacksonville, Florida, and everything going poorly for the Titans, I am backing Tennessee today. This game is for the division championship, and I would be shocked if the Titans do not put up a fight today. They will have Derrick Henry back for tonight’s game, coming off two weeks of rest. Henry will be fresh and ready to go, and I trust that he will open up the passing game for Dobbs. On the other side of the football, I believe that the Titans' defense is better than they have played all season and can make some key plays tonight. The pressure here is all on Jacksonville, and I expect them to play tight at times tonight. I will gladly back the dog in this spot.
