Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets Prediction
This is a significant game for playoff implications. Miami can still get into the playoffs despite being one of the coldest teams in football. Their path is pretty simple. They need the Bills to beat the Patriots, and they need to beat the Jets. It is somewhat crazy that we are talking about Miami just making the playoffs when a couple of months ago, people believed that this was a Super Bowl-caliber team.
Now it is fair to blame some of this on injuries. The Dolphins have been without starting quarterback Tua Tagolivia over the last few weeks, and last weekend, their backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was injured. That forces third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson into action. Thompson has made previous starts, including a start vs. the Jets earlier in the year. The quarterback spot has been an issue for the Jets as well.
New York has also started three different quarterbacks this season, and today, they will turn to the veteran Joe Flacco. Flacco has struggled in his limited action this year. The Jets were eliminated from playoff contention last week, and it will be interesting to see how they respond this afternoon.
I will be backing the Dolphins in this spot today. Miami still has something to play for and should have the motivation factor today. The Dolphins should be able to limit the Jets' offense today, led by Joe Flacco. Flacco has had a great NFL career, but at this point, he has nothing left in the tank. The Jets playing him today basically shows that they have given up on the season. On the flip side, the Dolphins will be on their third-string quarterback, but they have far more playmakers, including star wideouts Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. I trust that this offense will be able to move the football and put up enough points to cover and win this afternoon.
