Everyone thinks the Broncos are going to bounce back in Russell Wilson’s second season, and the Cardinals are everyone’s pick to finish with the worst record in the league. After opening up a 2.5-point favorite, the Broncos have since moved to -6 (-110) on the spread. Is this too many points for a team who significantly underperformed in 2022?

All the pressure is on Russ and the Broncos to show that they have been improving in training camp. There has been so much hype surrounding this team as we inch closer to week one, and they need to come out tonight and back up that hype. If the Broncos couldn’t turn it around after 17 games last year, what makes you think they are going to show up tonight?
The Cardinals probably will finish with one of the worst records in football this year as they look to rebuild. Kyler Murray is out for a significant amount of time, and the coaching staff is new. The one good thing the Cardinals have going for them is that their backup quarterback isn’t new. Colt McCoy has been around for years and is one of the more reliable, consistent backups in the NFL. I trust that he’ll be able to do enough with Hollywood Brown and James Conner out there. Brown is hungry to prove he is one of the most dynamic young receivers in the NFL, and Conner has been turning heads at camp.
When Colt McCoy leaves this game, it will be Houston star Clayton Tune taking over at quarterback. I like this kid; he played four years as a starter in college and has incredible arm talent. His one downside: he’s been known to make silly mistakes. Expect new head coach Jonathan Gannon to keep the play-calling extremely simple for the rookie in his NFL debut. He’s already expressed his confidence in the rookie earlier this month…
This Cardinals team is entering their first preseason game tonight with zero expectations. The Broncos are the ones playing with all the pressure tonight. The public is hammering Denver and Russ, expecting them to bounce back after a horrid first year. This is a preseason game, and a 6 point spread is too many points for me to stay off the underdog here. Give me the points with Colt McCoy and Clayton Tune leading the way against the overhyped Broncos.
