Well, this is the juiciest future I will sink my teeth into this NFL season, but I see no reason not to take it, as the end result seems nearly inevitable in my eyes. The AFC West race should come down to two teams this season, and I find it hard to believe the Chiefs are not getting the bye in Week 1 once again this year.
AFC West Preview and Prediction
Andy Reid has led the Chiefs to the division title in each of the last seven consecutive seasons, and he did it twice without Patrick Mahomes. Reid is one of the most successful head coaches in the Super Bowl Era and has never finished worse than second in the division, and those were in his first two seasons at the helm of a Denver Broncos team led by Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.
Patrick Mahomes and Co. have been the elite force in the NFL for nearly five whole seasons now, and with two of the last four Super Bowls belonging to them, they are once again the favorites to win the Lombardi Trophy. These odds are stupid. This team is in the prime phase of the dynasty, and they possess the most potent offense in the NFL. The defense was good enough last year to win a Super Bowl, so I am not very worried about them holding their own behind an offense that will consistently drop 30+ on opponents.
There simply is no reason to lay a wager on another squad from this division until someone proves they can knock them off. I have zero belief that the Broncos or Las Vegas Raiders can even scare the top of the table, so it comes down to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers are getting better every year. Justin Herbert develops further as an NFL starter under center, and the addition of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore should help the team's overall performance by the end of the season. Still, in the end, the Chiefs are going to be the dominant force coming out of the division.
