The Lions were America's team a season ago. It has been a long time since the Lions won the AFC North, but the sportsbooks have made them the favorites entering the season. The last time that the Lions won the North was in 1993. 

Head Coach Dan Campbell took the Lions from a three-win to a nine-win team in 2022. 2022 was a critical year for Campbell after going 3-13 in his first year as the head coach of the Lions. Campbell is optimistic that the team will be even better this year. 

Jared Goff had a breakout season at the helm for the Lions. Goff was added in the Matthew Stafford trade and will begin his third year as the starter for the Lions. 

There are numerous weapons on this Lion's offense, most notably wide receiver Amron St. Brown. St. Brown has gone for 2,073 yards over his first two seasons in the NFL, paired with 11 receiving touchdowns. 

The Lions will need to improve on the defensive side of the football, as they ranked 28th in points allowed per game (25.1).

The Chiefs will attempt to defend their crown as the champions of football. 

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2022 Super Bowl, and they have the talent to run things back and add another to the trophy case this year. 

Patrick Mahomes has won two Super Bowls in his last four years. Mahomes is the best quarterback in football and continues to wow NFL fans across the league on a daily basis. 

The Chiefs may be without their best weapon in Week 1. Tight End Travis Kelce is questionable after hyperextending his knee in practice on Tuesday. Kelce has gone over 1,000 yards in his last seven seasons. 

Kansas City was improved on defense in 2022 but still ranked 18th in football in points allowed per game (22.2).

Gibbs was selected in the first round by the Lions in the 2022 draft. At the time, many questioned this pick as the Lions had a deep backfield with David Montgomery and D'Andre Swift. 

The Lions coaching staff has publicly stated that they plan to use Gibbs in multiple ways and that the team envisions using Gibbs similar to the way the Saints use Alvin Kamara. 

Gibbs will be used often in the passing game. Kansas City ranked 20th in football in passing yards allowed per game, and they will struggle against the pass again this year.
